Dinged by a shopping cart

Last night I came out of Costco to find one of their heavy-ass shopping carts leaning against my car. It seems that some jerk-off either intentionally pushed the cart towards my car or left it in the middle of the lot where the strong winds did the deed.

The damage is on the driver's side rear fender and forces me to look at it every time I get in and out of the car! Because it's right on the angled arch, and not a flat surface, I think paintless dent removal wouldn't do much good. I wonder how much this is going to cost me. My comprehensive deductible is $250, but I'll probably try to handle this out-of-pocket.

NRA tags didn't work?

j/k

I agree PDR might not be a 100% fix but pass it by them to see what they can do...

that sucks Steve. is the paint chipped? if not, then i think PDR should do the trick as long as you get a more experience tech.

the rear bumpers are so flimsy, i'd probably be tempted to just reach underneath and try to pop the dent out myself.

That sucks At least you don't live in the Dirty Jerz though like I unfortunately do now. They have no concept whatsoever of returning shopping carts. The vast majority of the time when a parking spot is open it's because a shopping cart is sitting in the middle of the spot, and there's at least a random cart near every other car. Definitely makes me cringe every time I park

That sucks, I park far away whenever I go to Costco but i'm still afraid of those carts, the one I goto doesnt have any kind of bin for people to put them into so they are always just scattered around.

Went to Dent Masters yesterday and they determined the ding is too severe for PDR. So I then stopped by D&V Autobody in Sterling for an estimate... $1100 + 5 days I'll be making an insurance claim now.

really? that dent doesnt look too bad at all. maybe get a few opinions from other PDR vendors b/c their experience can vary greatly.

The guy that did a bunch of work at one of the NCC DIYs was probably the best i've ever seen. I'll try to get his name/number b/c after seeing his work, i'd trust him to do work for me.

I've had much worse dents taken out by my PDR guy. I'd try a different PDR place first.

And that sucks that some jerk-off did that to your car

Wow, that cart must have been full of bricks and going pretty fast to do that kind of damage. I once watched helpedlessly from a distance as a runaway cart smashed into the side of my brand new Eclipse. It hit hard and the dent wasn't half that bad.

I agree with the others that a good PDR guy could make that disappear. Some are better than others.

Clem has an assortment of hammers and rubber mallets, I'm sure it would look better afterwards than what it looks like now

The thing is the dent bashed in the outer AND inner layers of sheet metal. I dealt with the Dent Masters owner at the Tysons location and they first drilled a small pilot hole (1/4" drill bit) in the door jam and stuck a tool inside to see if the dent could be pushed out. The top portion above the crease was workable, but not the lower side. They've been in business for along time and came highly recommended, so I don't doubt their judgment. Fortunately they didn't charge me for their exploratory attempt, but I will definitely look them up next time.
