Engine revs strongly when shifting into park
I've a problem that's come up recently that I wondered if anyone else has had. On an intermittent basis, the engine will suddenly rev up when shifting into park. It's strange because I can have my foot on the brake, the car is at a complete stop for several seconds or more, but when shifting from Drive into Park, the engine suddenly races up to 3+ RPM's for five or six seconds before dropping back to normal. The problem is purely limited to the transition from Drive to Park; otherwise the engine idles just fine.
After I shutoff the engine and start it back up, it runs fine. It only happens once in awhile, but the degree of revving is getting worse. I'll be taking it into the dealership but wanted to know if anyone else has ever had this type of problem. I hope it's something simple like a defective sensor somewhere and not the transmission itself. This is really the first problem I've had with the car -- just reached 20,000 miles today. Thanks. |

I have the same issues whenever I start mine up from a cold start....Whether its the first time I crank it up in the morning or I'm going to lunch or leaving at the end of the day from work.

Thats weird. Must be a computer or sensor glitch.

Not normal if it revs up to 3k+. Take it to the dealer.

I'm planning to, but just wanted to try and get an idea of what it might be first. The shifting is great, so I don't think it's anything mechanical. Also, it can't be the throttle sticking, because the engine is already at idle while still in Drive.

I'm very curious too, 3k revs should never be happening in park.

Maybe your car is telling you not to turn it off. It wants to keep driving.
