headliner....options

Hey guys,

I thought I'd run this past you guys. I've done a search and there isn't much information out there and decided to just make the thread. I almost pulled the trigger on the anthracite headliner for my car. The thing is, for $1000 there are other things I'd rather do. My dad and brother are in the used car business and my brother keeps telling me just to take it out and dye the thing black. Then, I thought about covering the thing in black alcantara and then use dye to color the plastic pieces. Does anyone here have any experience with the dye process or re-covering with alcantara?

I looked into with a local shop (wrapping in alcantara that is). The response I got is that it would be very costly and would involve pulling the existing fabric off first. I don't really believe that, but I didn't really press them on it or shop around more.

My plan was to wrap the headliner, but buy new plastic pieces in black. I priced this out with Dan@unitedbmw and with the actual anthracite headliner it came out to 7 or 8 hundred I think, so not quite $1000.

There is a local custom auto shop near me, and my buddy who has an STI was quoted about $400 or $500 to have his headliner covered in alcantara. I was going to look further into this...

Just looked it up on Tischner's side (would have used Dan@united, but they had to bring it down due to some fraud issues ). It came out to $758.18.

Not sure how easy the install would be though.

Just before United's site went down, I was looking into the price and pm'd Dan regarding the shipping. I want to say that the total for everything was $900-950 and the shipping was $100. I may try to dye it first and see how it looks. Tough call.

Right, I wasn't including shipping, which wouldn't be cheap for a piece that big, so 900-950 seems about right.

It is a tough call, I've wanted to do this for a long time, but I have a hard time justifying the cost. Maybe after get my iCarbon pieces I'll motivate myself to do this. If you go through with it let us know how it goes.

Your updated total is what I got on Tischer's site, too, but here's what is missing.

Passenger side grab handle

I'd have to do some research to get all these part numbers, but I imagine that there's a few hundred dollars in parts that you don't have numbers for I already miss Dan!!!!

Hmm, I got all those part numbers from Dan and was under the impression that's all that was needed. If all these other parts are need it will surly bump the price up a bit too much for my liking.
