X6M oil service after 1st part of break-in period (2000 km or 1200 mi)
Hello friends,
do we have to do 1200 miles (2000 km) oil service on X6M S63B44A, like on other regular ///M's? BMW X6M manual does not require this, but I am not sure if it is right. Besides that, oil change period is set on unreal 18000 mi (30000 km)! I am going to change engine oil on 1200 mi (2000 km), and every 6000-7000 mi (10000-12000 km) next. What do you think on this? |

The car will tell you when you need to change the oil. Since BMW uses synthetic oil mileage is not as important as type of usage. When my X6 needed an oil change it phoned the dealer and told them it needed an oil change, dealer called me to tell me my car had called them and I needed to make an appoint for oil change.

I have 2010 X5M, also has been running 3000 miles and I asked the dealer about 1200 miles service as my M3 and the answer is "Not required anymore!" I tried to request at my own expenses but refused as they will only service as stated from the service odometer panel.

I have both but I think it's part of bmw assist. I didn't know about it until someone from the dealer called me and said "your car called us and it needs an oil change you need to make an appointment". At first I went "who called you ?" , they explained the car had notified them that it need oil change, I didn't think to ask how it notified them. |

However, not all dealers are equipped or use this feature. Your car tells you when you need service, do they really need to call you to tell you again? I have never been called. I suspect with all the broken down BMW's dealerships could not really handle soliciting extra work from customers. (Just kidding) : From BMWUSA web site... "TeleService (Service Request) keeps you in the driver's seat, by transmitting your vehicle’s status and service needs to your BMW center automatically or manually upon your request. Your BMW service advisor will then call you to schedule a convenient appointment. This exclusive feature allows your service department to have any needed parts ready, saving you time. It also reduces the chance of a breakdown later - adding to your peace of mind. Available on BMW Assist-equipped and activated 2004 and later 5 and 6 Series, 2006 and later 7 Series and 3 Series Sedans and Sports Wagon, 2007 and later X5 and 3 Series, 2008 and later X6 and 1 Series, and 2009 and later Z4. TeleService is not available on the X3. "

Has anyone tried to do this on their X6, does anyone want to try to see if it works at least? I would try it, but I didn't get my X6 yet.

this seems like a lot of trouble why don't you just let BMW do oil changes since they are included and reset the the service indicator. You can change the oil in between if you want and it will not reset indicator. Realistically with modern sythenic oil the old every 3k doesn't apply but this way your oil would get changed a lot. |
