Holy Bumpy Roads Bat-Man...Denver A/S question.

Moving to Denver and looking to get a set of Conti DWS all-seasons to handle the snow. I noticed the roads in the Denver area are really bumpy so I am debating a move to a 215/45/18 & 245/40/18 setup which is available in A/S adding some cushion and bringing the speedo closer to accurate.

First question is will the extra diameter over stock fit without modification?

I am trying to create the best possible all season combo and would like to avoid purchasing new wheels. I know that 225/40/18 & 255/35/18 will fit but the FAQs but am concerned about the added width reducing snow performance.

I know A/S aren't great but I don't plan to drive mountain passes with my care either just want to be able to get around town without serious trouble. I have driven with A/S on a Grand Marquis in the past without trouble, will I have a terrible time?

I would get a snow tire setup AND an all season setup.

There was a guy here who actually had THREE SETS of wheels. Summers/All Seasons/Winters. He stated it was bc when you go up in elevation what might be water/melted snow down low... up in the mountain you got ice/snow! He said they get three seasons in a year! lol

I think two sets of wheels would be ok. Summer & winter.

I went with 205/55R17s all around on a square setup: 7j x 17's. I wanted the best "bite/grip" in the snow/winter time. A lot of ppl here go with wider tires though. Fo me its all about go and not so much show/looks.

I think you're nuts to consider all-season tires in Denver. Dedicated snows on dedicated 17x8 wheels doesn't cost significantly more. You can only put wear on one set of tires at a time, and swapping tires on and off a single set of wheels adds up.

Thanks for the input, I think I am going to grab a setup from TireRack and get a jack/pads to swap myself. I am debating getting 18x8s that I like to give me the option of using those for my summers since I might only be in Denver for a year or so. Any thoughts? 17s are cheaper and give the benefit of more sidewall however.
