Jerking while accelerating in 1st, 6MT
Newbie here. I have searched this topic and found many threads but none quite like the problem I am having.
I have '07 335i E90 6MT, 28k miles. Only about 5% of the time it jerks pretty significantly through first gear. Occasionally it will happen early in 2nd as well. I definitely am not babying the clutch as I have made sure to have completely released it and still have this problem. It's not reproducible and occurs at random. My warranty is up in Jan '11 so I would like to know if there is a problem to get fixed. Please help. Thanks in advance. |

I won't be much help to you, other then this happens to me some times.
I think this is what happens if you do not give enough gas, when giving too much clutch. I think it is because the type of clutch used. Maybe they needed a bit more heavy duty then normal clutch in the 335i due to power? In my hold honda I and this "racing clutch" and I could not go under 25 with out it jerking the shit outa me. The clutch was great to get off the line, but you could not safely drive through a neighborhood. |

Feather the clutch more and give a lil more gas. When I first started to drive my 6mt it was quite jerky. Let off the clutch slower and let it slightly slip as you give it gas will make it smooth from 0 to 20. Also most people let off slow then drop it in... this causes rough acceleration as well. It's all in how you feather the clutch.

Try this. Work the cluth as you normally do and ease into the throttle. You shouldn't get any bucking. Similarly if you want a more aggressive take off more throttle earlier in the clutch release. Again practice.

The clutch in the e90 is really long, you've got to learn to release it slowly. I had the same problem when I first began driving this car (Also my first MT car)

Same issue here, but I'm quite sure when it happens it's my own damn fault. Touchy clutch, yes, but still user error.

If it is intermittently happening after the clutch is fully engaged (pedal released) in both 1st and 2nd, then it sounds like it may be an engine management problem. Are you getting a check engine light?
Hopefully, your dealer will be able to duplicate the problem. Tom |

I'm more inclined to believe the engine management problem is behind the wheel no disrespect, but with lots of torque 6MT is not the easiest to drive. You can't just be good in a civic and expect to do well with our cars.

Exactly. And giving more gas once it has grabbed in this situation makes it buck. I think this is the mistake the OP is making.

CDV problem. I'm absolutely convinced that the random clutch behavior is CDV related.

I have my cdv and if I blind folded you as a passenger, you'd think I drive an automatic... it's the driver...
SSK, shorter shifter, CDV delete, tranny fluid types (e.g. GM syncromesh), and other hardware will not help until you master how to drive manual.
