>>> HP Autowerks <<< First 135i Stoptech Trophy Big Brake Install

"StopTech’s Trophy Brake Systems take our experience and successes from our racing program and deliver on-track performance with no compromise,” said Dan Lelchuk, president of Centric Parts. “As far as the brakes go, you provide the pads and the track, and a StopTech Big Brake Kit provides the rest for your stock or tuned performance production car.”

These racetrack and competition brake systems come with StopTech’s new Trophy STR lightweight forged calipers in four- or six-piston configurations and include the option of a quick release version of the StopTech patented bridge. These “track only” calipers feature the same metallurgy and design of the StopTech ST-40 and ST-60 calipers, but are engineered to provide a 20-percent reduction in weight without sacrificing stiffness or performance. “Every race team out there is obsessed with shaving off weight, no matter what the sport, and StopTech’s Trophy STR racing calipers do just that,” said Dino Crescentini, CEO of Centric Parts and race car driver in the SCCA World Challenge Series on The SPEED Channel.

StopTech Trophy Big Brake Kits include the company’s patented AeroRotors, engineered to increase airflow by 11 percent for better cooling and performance. Unique to the Trophy Brake Systems is full-floating mounting hardware, which eliminates pad knock-back. The patented, billet 7075 aluminum AeroHats create an additional 4 percent airflow, according to StopTech. Together, these technologies optimize the rotor system to provide even performance and consistent feedback to the pedal under the unique combination of hard cornering and braking found on the track.
These kits offer a 20% weight reduction over standard Stoptech calipers while maintaining the stiffness and performance.

Differences between standard and trophy kits:
•Natural, hard anodized finish of the calipers (lighter, no paint to fade)
•Stoptech logo engraved, and tastefully painted.
•Natural, hard anodized finish of brake rotor hat (more resistant to discoloration from heat)
•Rotors available only in slotted configuration

Included in the Trophy STR big brake system:
•Forged, STR calipers
•Floating, slotted rotors
•Stainless steel brake lines, 100% leakdown tested to 2500PSI
•Engineered caliper brackets
•StopTech Street Performance brake pads (track pads available at extra cost)

Here is what all of you have been asking for you. Real numbers, WITH photos.

It's front brakes only but here you go!

Front BMW 135i OEM:

12.2 lbs oem caliper with pads(6500 miles)
21.6 lbs oem rotor(6500 miles)
2.0 lbs oem caliper bracket/mount

*The oem components may be a bit heavier when new

Front Stoptech Trophy Sport:

10.4 lbs Stoptech Trophy Sport with pads
17.6 lbs Stoptech rotor(355 x 32mm, larger in diameter and thickness than oem)
1.2 lbs Stoptech caliper bracket/mount

You are looking at an unsprung weight savings of ~6.6 lbs per each front corner of your 135i. You'll notice that there was 4 lbs saved on the rotors alone, if the rotor size and thickness had been the same as an OEM rotor, the saving would have been even greater. The increased thickness is important as acting as a heatsink which reduces brake temps and fade.

The calipers are anodized in a great finish that brake dust has a difficult time sticking to, and the color is somewhat close to the rear calipers.

Hope you guys enjoyed, feel free to give us call if you'd like to discuss your performance brake options.

Wow. You guys are thorough... real numbers, pictures... I am not in the market, but kudos on the detail of the information provided.

Your tune for the 128i I am eyeing... :-)

You mentioned that aero rotors are available only in slotted configuration. Are those cross drilled rotors shown in pics above from standart kit? Also, which track pads fit trophy calipers and what is the price for those pads?

Not sure I understand the purpose of the partial cutaway on the Stoptech along some of the interior of the outer edge radius?

Steel or aluminium hats?

Yes, it is really thicker on the outside.

Aluminum hats are used here.

Stoptech does make exception for their best dealers, we were able to get our Trophy Sport with cross drilled rotors. Cross drilled rotors will add $100 to the standard kit.

Pads are the standard ST-60 shape.

PM me and let me know which ST-60 pads you are after.

Money will be the last thing on your mind when you're braking as late as you can in the turns with these brakes. Look at it as a maintenance item coupled with an upgrade.

It may be very close or lighter than the oem caliper. You are going up to a 4 piston caliper from a 2 piston with more pistons and larger brake pads, the trade off is well worth it. The majority of the weight savings will be in the rotors.

Let me get this straight... so once we go Stoptech, we can't go back?
Different sizes calipers, pads, and rotors... we have to get them from Stoptech?
How much are pads and rotors for this 135i application?

If you are serious about it, we can certainly look into it.

What do you mean not able to go back? You can always install your oem brakes again.
