What's in your trunk?

In past cars, I used to carry a RubberMaid underbed storage box containing:

1. Quart of Oil
2. Brake fluid
3. Coolant
4. Spare headlight bulb
5. Jumper cables
6. PVC rain coat and pants
7. Clean rags
8. A few hand tools

My new 1 has such a small trunk, I hate to take it all up with this stuff. What do I really need? What do you carry routinely in your trunk?

The junk in my trunk is a BMW mobility kit, a small socket/hex key kit, 2 towels in a plastic bag in case I wash the car on my lunch break.

Wow! Where you going where you might need
Quart of Oil
Brake fluid
Coolant
Spare headlight bulb
My 135i is mostly a daily driver where if I needed oil, brake fluid or coolant I could simply pull into an auto parts store and pick it up. I do drive it several times a year where there is no cell service for about 120 miles but never worried about fluids. It’s been about 25 years since I required fluid in a vehicle on the road and that was when I drove older cars. What do you do to calm your fear of no spare tire?

In the battery compartment, I keep an air compressor - on the shelf under the trunk mat I keep a quart of oil and the tool kit. Behind the wheel well I keep Simoniz Wheel cleaner, and Carnuba Car Wash. On the other side (I added a second net) I keep towels and a microfiber mitt (in a plastic bag).

How'd you do that? My 1er came without nets on either side, and I'd like to have both. I've seen the part # on RealOEM (here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...58&hg=51&fg=65) but I'm not sure how it secures to the trunk liner, since I can't really physically inspect it.

Oh, and I just remembered I also have the stock warning triangle in my trunk. Not sure if US cars get that.

I found a net on Ebay, I just had to drill a couple holes in the trunk liner- it came with some plastic anchors.

Dude, you drive a new car...not a clunker from the 80's. Keep your trunk clean for when you actually need it! I carry 3 things at all times that barely take up any space: 1) a detailer spray (in case of unexpected bird poop/tree zap), a clear bra protectant bottle (for the same reason as above) and microfiber towels to use with both products. 2) A small umbrella for obvious reasons. 3) Navi device and wires in a small pouch in case I ever need it.

All of it fits inside the small side pocket held in place by the net.

No first aid kits? Not that you're going to safe a life with a disinfectant swab and a band-aid, but you might keep yourself from bleeding all over the expensive leather.

Well, when I stop to think about it, seems like I am carrying one of everything I ever needed one time or another in the past 40 years of driving. Truth be told, I haven't really needed them ever again. Also, my actions may be partially due to the fact that I was an Eagle Scout (Always Prepared) and am still an avid long-distance biker who must be ready to fix things in some pretty remote places. True, in Ohio there is a gas station every 150 yards or less, but out West, 150 miles is more the norm.

Oh... and I have been thinking about adding a temporary spare. Talk me out of it... please!

40 years ago you didn't have a cell phone that works on EVERY major road or GPS positioning in an emergency.

The same trunk monkey resided in my E46 M3 for three years before moving into the 135i trunk.
