***Official Painted Interior Trim Thread***

Please post your pics of color-matched interior trim.

(There is a similar thread on the M3 forum - thanks greatly to IND's offering of painted trims. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=501987 )

Note: Sorry. This thread got a little off track with my own project, which was the motivation for starting it. I hope you'll scroll through it and post any pics you have. Otherwise, I'd love to hear your comments on these ideas.

I can't believe that I'm even considering doing this (color-matching trim to exterior color), but...I don't want wood, I've fallen out of love with CF (and CL), and would like something sportier than Piano. What's left?

Painted trim appears to be a more and more popular option in sports car, even high end ones. I first got the idea for my car after seeing the Porsche Boxster Spyder at the NA Auto Show in Detroit this year and then Googling "Porsche Interiors", where they paint the center console and an accent stripe to match the exterior color. Looks pretty sharp in those cars.

But...what about BMWs? Would this work in the 3 series (e.g. a Montego E93 ). Or, is it gonna look like a rice rocket gone bad???

Anybody done this or anything like it??? Please post 'em up.

First attempt

Here is a little something I did in MS paint to a pic of my car. Crazy or what?

IMO, I say go with the piano black + cf combination idea you had earlier, I don't really know how well the blue would go with the beige interior...

IMO color-match vinyl wrap all the trim and it will look just fine.

Thanks for the input. The thread had over 100 views before anyone commented. I was starting to think everyone's flame throwers had burned out.

Saw a new Z car in the showroom yesterday - yellow with yellow leather trim under the dash and in the side panels. Yellow stitching in the alcantara dash. Looked good. So...even BMW has some imagination these days. However, it was all set against a black background, which does make a difference.

The Montego outside with beige interior is a great combo but bringing blue into the cabin could be tricky. But...since the creme beige is so light, I think it would look a lot better than the Interlagos and Bamboo in this picture.

Alpina B3

One of my other inspirations - The Alpina B3 interior. Certainly not for everyone but gives us some idea of where we can go for a different look, bringing some color into the interior.

hmmm the b3 interior is definitely an interesting one.. i just don't think the lighter interior color can pull off brighter blue trim.. just IMO

Actually, Montego in the cabin would probably not be as bright as I've done it in MS Paint. It would probably look more like the top pic below. In lower light, the car is almost navy. The side pieces might even disappear, especially when the top is up. It would definitely lighten when the sun hits it, but that might be a good thing.

Thanks. Kinda like this?

I even thought about painting the upper 2/3 of the CF dash pieces in a Piano Black and leaving the lower 1/3 exposed CF to get a similar effect as the blue scheme. I hate to ruin such nice pieces, but... I could then paint the ambient lighting strips gloss black to match the top of the dash piece and carry the gloss black around the car's interior.

The CF trim kit has kind of gotten like the original beige...just too much of it, especially in the dash. I wish those dash trim pieces weren't so wide.

Didn't mean to turn this thread into my personal project, but...that was the motivation for starting it up.

You guys are holding back. Let's hear some more real opinions. Think outside the box for a minute. Besides, surely you've had time to put more gas in your flamethrowers by now.

Gotta go with piano black. The painted trim will look terrible on a e90 with beige interior, esp if its montego.

Coming Soon...

I have finally figured it out! My old aluminum trim is now in the hands of a custom painter. So...

Coming soon, to a forum near you: Piano Black...with an Edge

did you ever finish the paint?

I'd like to take a black interior and paint the wood trim red (similar to what the new sport line does).

Good post...I've been thinking about doing this for months.
I have a beige interior with a barbera red car.

I was thinking about doing the interior trim pieces in barbera red - except for the steering wheel. The barbera red changes color depending on the amount of light present. Sometimes it looks black, others it almost looks purple. I think it will match the black accents in my car really well - plus it already matches the beige interior. The more I think about it, the more I think I'm going to do it. Wish I knew how to remove the interior trim pieces. I think Montego Blue kind of changes color in the light too...but maybe not as much...? Either way I think that blue would look great - especially in a convertible.

I'm just not a huge fan of CF everywhere - and I also really like what Porsche does with all the painted interior options in the 911.
