Mtech bumper > non-mtech for cooling?

I own a 2007 335i with a pre-LCI front bumper. I've put splitters on it. I'm interested in buying an Mtech front bumper thinking it will offer more air flow. From the looks of it compared to the non-mtech it would offer the IC with more air but the brake and oil cooler seem to be the same. Would it be worth the money for the amount of cooling i would get compared to the non-mtech bumper. This is aesthetics aside. Looking into pure function here. thanks for you input!

The bigger opening might not increase cooling. We need to compare the stock opening to the "openings" in the FMIC, i.e. the parts from which the air goes through. The share of metal vs openings at the frontal area of an FMIC is quite a lot, so that you might have the stock bumper opening big enough for all that air that is able to go through the FMIC. I.e. basically, the opening in the bumper can be a lot smaller than the total frontal area of the FMIC.

Are you experiencing any cooling issues now? If not, it's probably not worth the investment for the cooling alone.

My cooling is noticeably better since I have switched.

In terms of opening size for the E90, the difference between stock and mtech is pretty small. For E92 there's a bigger for difference, but for E90 I doubt you'll see any real world difference for cooling.

Since he already has an aftermarket FMIC, I doubt the change will do anything good.
I have a CXRacing FMIC, which has much of the IC hidden behind the stock bumper, yet my IAT's are great with repeated pulls in 100 degree heat. The OP has a HPF which is almost totally visible with the stock bumper.

Mtech front keeps your car noticable cooler... like 1-5 degrees celcius depending on the situation... I changed after one year at this is my personal experience... It's not like a day and night different.. but noticable!

Keeps your car cooler? In the cabin? IATs? Coolant temp? Oil temp? EGT? FMIC?... What do people mean by "cooler" in general?

Disagree on a few notes. My roomate has the m3 rep bumper and my mtech has a slightly larger opening(e92). On top of the the air ducts are blocked for fog lights. My mtech gives each brake duct its own hole in the bumper and the oil cooler its own duct twice the size of stock.

if you're willing to go the extra mile, you can actually use the 335is brake ducts with the pre-lci mtech bumper cover for a little more cooling. look up the thread made by "marcel"

Your roomate did the install wrong Fog light delete + M3 ducts gives you the "fake" brake ducts (which are only good at blowing air on the tire) and you still retain the oil cooler duct. I have the e90 version, so I'm not sure the size of the main face of the bumper.

To be honest, the benefits of the aftermarket bumpers for cooling are going to be so minimal there is no way of measuring any real gains. You want cooler temps, invest in a Water/Methanol injection system or a better FMIC.

I didn't know those fit, so I stand corrected. But technically he didn't do it wrong, some people like foglights. All I am saying is when I put my mtech bumper in I noticed lower oil temps and intake temps b/c my CX intercooler is really exposed.

After: (ignore hood gap, it is fixed now)

In the upper pic the bumper functions as a shroud forcing the air through the FMIC. In the lower pic, there is room on both the right and left of the FMIC. I hope the air does not get through from the sides of the FMIC? In any case, the lower pic could benefit from shrouding.

Those black parts on both sides of the intercooler are the brake duct coolers, not just open holes. The right side is just a fog light and the left side is a fog light and the oil cooler duct.

That's exactly the problem described by jippii ensio.. there is actually more air pressure in the first pic than in the second pic. This is the Venturi effect.
