Performance Mod
I'm still pretty new to this site..I am wanting to buy a mod to free up some power or I guess "re-flash" my computer.
But i DO NOT want to void my warranty. I bought a 335i with the warranty and maintenance package and spent a good amount on it so I don’t want to void that. I hear about a Vishnu, or a ProCede but how do those work? Any long term effects? Are they worth it? Does anybody have a used one for sale? Thanks

You'll be better off going with OEM Performance upgrades that trying to do something your self and voiding the warranty. Throw any codes in the process and the Dealer will know you've been messing with it.

You should either A. Get JB4/scan tool to delete codes B. Spend the money on maybe Dinan (that covers your warranty) or C. just be happy with it as is.
When you modify anything under the hood...you're taking a risk no matter what. JB4 is easy to install/remove and as long as you don't damage anything, you'll be fine.

BMW Performance Power Kit is an OEM ECU flash. Gives +20HP or so (IDK how much actually gets to the wheels). It is very expensive but will be completely within warranty. Must be done at a BMW dealer.
Sounds like you have some reading to do about warranty + mods on this forum. There is a possibility installing an aftermarket part will void your warranty. If you install a JB4 and take the car in for warranty repair because your seatbelt caddy won't work, there's not much of a connection there. However if you take the car in because the cat failed or the HPFP blew, they could blame it on the JB4. I would not under any circumstances take an under-warranty car to the dealer with something like a JB4 installed, if they see it you have no idea what they will do. There is always a risk as noted.

I took my Cobra in to dealers with a cat back and cold air intake and they didnt care! But as soon as I started throwing headers, tunes and pulleys not to mention a Kenne bell down the road, the warranyt converstaion was out of the window, wich is a given with those heavy mods.

With a lot of the aftermarket parts, and depending on the dealer, they will not void your entire warranty, they just won't cover something that could potentially be caused due to the after market part. Also look into cobb ap, plugs into your obdII port and flashes the ECU, then you can unflash before you take into the dealer.

I have mine modded out the ass and they know it here....
Loud ass exhaust, intake, dropped low as shit/scraping...etc... And the dealer here never said a word about any of it. And I've had $$$$ warranty work done a few times. HPFP, injectors, brake sensors/pads, full service (twice) and other stuff. I don't care what anyone says here....THEY CAN NOT DENY YOU FACTORY WARRANTY coverage if the problem was not caused by the modification. Now, anthing past 4 yr/50K, I've heard is a different story as far as the law is concerned. With that said, I've taken my JB out each time. It's VERY easy to take out without damaging anything. Just make sure you get a tool to clear codes...

Is there a tuner that you can just plug in to your OBD module and download the perfromance software. This would make removing alot simpler. And the Dinan tune is stupid expensive! Im not paying $1800 for 78 horsepower when it can be acheved with other tuners that are $500 and removable if warranty is an issue.

Well Cobb is the flavor of the month. Not dissing them, I am looking at them too. Just saying they are the newest and greatest thing. There is alot of info on the turbo section on this. Check it out and do what is best for you. I prefer a flash as opposed to a piggy but that is me.
FTR, my SA has never given me an issue with warranty work....also heavily modded (tune/exhaust/DP's/DCI/LSD). In fact he does tell me when they HAVE to do things like install new software for HPFP...I appreciate it and plan so that I can immediately reflash.

so how does the Jb+ work? do i just plug it in and use it and then when i need to take it in for warranty work do i just un-plug it and then what? is there something i use to erase it from the system or do i just hit a reset button or something? once the warranty work is done do i need to reprogram everything all over again or does it just save the settings?

Yes....just plug it into the ECU..and then un-plug it before taking it in. I actually left mine in when I took mine in for service/brake work and they didn't say anything.
You need to have a CAN tool in case it throws a code. So then you can clear it before you take it in...

1. If you get a jb+ you will just be getting something else shortly after you get a taste. Nothing wrong with jb+ but it is a gateway drug. Why waste time? Just go directly to the heroin and enjoy.
2. You may be needlessly spinning your wheels. Did you try going to your regioinal forum/local chat thread and asking about which local dealers are mod friendly or which SA's in the area are "cool". For a $50 christmas gift every year I get peace of mind. 3. You ALWAYS take a risk, regardless of what you use/do. Either bite the bullet and have as much fun as possible while still managing your risk ala #2 or just don't play at all.
