Exchange High Pressure Pump - New HPFP

There is now a new type of HPFP available called Exchange High Pressure pump.
this pump is fitted on the 1M with part number 13517616170 but its also the newest available for 335 MY 2007 .

See 1M: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...g=15&lang=enUS
335: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...g=15&lang=enUS

This pump should be better than the old type. Maybe the definitive fix?

anybody knows anything more about this?

Interesting!!!

We'll just have to wait and see if someone with the 1M suffers the HPFP failure. Or sooner or later, someone here with their HPFP fail might get this replacement.

We could hope it would deliver a bit more fuel comming from the 1M
We here in Europe donīt seem to be troubled as much by the HPFP issues as the US.
Had miine changed at 47000 km and car has 62000 km so I donīt hope it has to be changed right now undless it could free up some more ponies

Per Rob@Cobb that code is actually LPFP related.

Interesting... On the BT Code spreadsheet it is listed as nothing to worry about if I remember correctly. I have this pop up every once in awhile too.

Yeah that list was written in 2009, before we had any real ability to read lpfp/HPFP output. A lot has changed since then!

If there is indeed a new pump, that could explain a lot. Personally, I was really baffled as to why all the new Bimmers' (especially M's) are going to turbo's.

FWIW, other manufacturers like Nissan, that have gone the DI route have been having problems with HPFP's as well. I have a friend with a Juke that had her HPFP crap out on her on an on-ramp merging with Thruway traffic. She wasn't amuzed at all. Maybe the new pump is the technological response to that problem. Time will tell.

Hey, if gamers can crack the enzyme code to the AIDS virus in 3 weeks (something scientists couldn't do for decades), maybe we pose the problem to them.

Hmmm... I am curious to find out of they just attempted to "fix" the HPFP yet again, OR, they designed a higher output pump for the 1M and just superseded the part number!

Tischer has this info:

Item Number: 13517616170
MSRP: $276.04
Core Price : $50.00
Price: $226.04

The item is labeled "Exchange High Pressure Fuel Pump".

Could the "exchange" mean that you finally have the option to return your old broken one for a $50.00 core charge?

I just ordered mine and will be installing tomorrow night. I am going to the track this weekend for 1/4 runs so I will let you know how this pump works.

What would be cool is if this pump actually has a greater output than the old PNs.

Perhaps a custom map for those who do this possible "upgrade"?

Yesterday i was at Frankfurt Auto Show and had an interesting conversation with a guy at Bosch. He told me, that there will be a new HPFP (already presented at the show), which will be capable of 500bar pressure instead of the current one, which is good for 200bar. The guy was from Japan, so his english was not perfect, and i really hope, that i understand him well.

Ok, I just checked the "other 335i engine" forum and a small handful of people are getting the -170 replacements recently. This is awesome. Hopefully my -446 pump fails before the extended warranty runs out so I can get the newest one free of charge. Though unlikely because the failure rate of the -446 pump is pretty low already. I'm confident the -170 is the answer to our prayers.

BMW sent me a recall notice for my 07 335i for the HPFP, but mine hasn't failed yet (77k on the car). Will they only change it if it goes bad? I thought the point of a recall was to replace the pump because it's known to go bad? So I should be able to just take it in under the recall and have the pump changed out even if it's still working? Need some clarification!! I should probably call BMW and see what they say about it.

I've been waiting to get it done because I keep reading that the pump they have been replacing it with has been the same part number, so I was going with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but if this is a new and improved pump, maybe I should take it in for the recall?? What do you guys think??

Just talked to BMW, and verified that they are replacing the old style HPFP with the 1M part number pump. He says that pump has been in production since April 2010, and since I have an open campaign for the HPFP on my car, they are gonna change it out tomorrow. I really hope I'm making the right decision!! Guess I'll be the guinue pig!! Lol!!

Is it possible to log the flow from the LPFP? Because I have a recall due on my car for the new pump and already ensured that the new 1M pump is the one I'm getting from my dealership.

I was thinking that if possible, I would log the flow of the current pump and then log the new pump and see if it is indeed better.

Cobb can log some HPFP and LPFP parameters.
