Cofused!! Need Help?? Smoking!!
Ok so my setup 2 months ago was ar catless dps, jb4, stock exhaust, bms dci. ran map 2. Then last month i put on vangaurd catless exhaust. As soon as i did that and took off stock exhaust i was smoking so bad when i came to a stop!!!! Thought it was bad turbo seals or bad pcv vavle!!! So Yesterday i took off ar dps n put back stock dps n took out jb4. Bam not an ounce of smoke!! So then i put jb4 back in with stock dps and still no smoke!!!! So what iam saying is when i had ar dps with stock exhaust wit secondary cats no smoke!! Wit ar dps n vangaurd fully catless tons of smoke! Then when i have stock catted dps with catless vangaurd no smoking!!!!! So is all the free flowing air and having no back pressure from cats causing the turbos to pull in oil and or threw the pcv vale and burning it???? Do these cars need some sort of back pressure so they dont smoke?? My question is if i put ar dps back on and put secondary cats on vangaud same place were cats were on stock exhaust do you think the smoking will still stop?? Cause it always stoped completely when i had either just secondary cats or primary cats on?? Im confused now!! Thanks

It seems that the number of smoking cars is constantly increasing and the common element between all of them are the catless downpipes.

Ok so you are saying that when you don't have any cats....your car smokes? What color smoke is it? I'm going to go out on the limb here and say that if it realy is smoking then it's prolly burning oil....and the cats trap the vapors. |

Yes its a white smoke so yes its oil!! But I thought that cats only catch the things you cant see like the carbon dioxide!! If the car was smoking that bad cats will not stop smoking like that all of a sudden???

So the smoke was white? White smoke is usualy water vapor (this includes coolant).
Blueish smoke is going to be OIL. Does it stop smoking when it warms up? The DP's were new so there might of been something burning off of them. And no this has nothing to do with backpressure. |

I've had the same problem. It is definitely the turbos. |

BMW swapped my turbos because of a terrible rattle on deceleration. Said my actuator rods were warped or something and gave me new turbos with thicker actuator rods.
Hopefully they change yours out and it solves the burning oil problem. |

Hmmm. I have never caught my car making a puff. However, I know of several people who have had oil leaks / bad turbos that have caused smoke.

in my guess, your exhaust could have some residue or oils that are being burnt off when its on. Thats a guess. Drive the car, and tell us if it feels normal

My old man has a catback and a tune on his e90 335i and when he put catless downpipes, it simply would not stop smoking white even after fully warmed up. The raspiness and smoke made him put back the stock downpipes and now he's happy. So yeah I now have some AA catless downpipes for sale as it was used for 1 day lol.

You guys are just masking the problem. You need new turbos if it starts smoking. Having cats blocks the white smoke from flooding out of your exhaust. I guarantee 100% if you get new turbos your smoke will be gone with a full catless setup

I swapped out my turbos, and I'm running full catless (DPs and Exhaust) and I don't have the smoking probably anymore. Like I said before, its your turbos. It tends to happen a lot to 07s. |
