Thumbs up NEW HPF FERAMIC CLUTCH for the 135i/335i - SNEAK PEAK

Hey everyone. There's been a ton of demand for the 135i/335i clutch as the power everyone is making keeps going up and we keep getting asked for a daily driveable clutch that can handle all the power. We have been working with our clutch manufacturer to come up with a 135i/335i clutch similar to our highly rated HPF Feramic Supra and BMW M3 clutches and it is now completed. This clutch has the same smooth engaging material as our other clutches but still has an extremely high melting point, 1200 degrees F, so it will never fuse. The amazing thing about these single disk clutches is that they have held over 1,000rwhp without sacrificing driveability. Most customers won't even know it's an aftermarket clutch. The pedal effort provides a nice crisp feel and is slightly stiffer but very stock like.

HPF CLUTCH LOAD RATINGS
  • FACTORY - 1800 lbs
  • HPF FERAMIC Stg 1 - 2500 lbs - 750rwhp
  • HPF FERAMIC Stg 2 - 2600 lbs - 800rwhp
  • HPF FERAMIC Stg 3 - 2680 lbs - 900rwhp
All stages use the same clutch disk and the engagement will feel almost identical.

I was hoping to have videos today of Tim Mineo driving around with this clutch in his 135i, but we had the wrong clutch alignment tool. Next week we will have this installed in his car and he can post up his feedback.

Here's a picture.

HPF Stage 1 FERAMIC CLUTCH for the BMW 135i/335i

Here's a video of the HPF clutch in an "SMG" M3 from one of our customers. It shows how smooth the engagement is.

Here's another video of the HPF clutch in another M3.

Are there only three torque straps?

That is likely to be the weak point, especially if less than perfect rev-matching on downshifts. Not an issue for the drag strip, but will be on road courses.

You might want to consider adding at least one additonal torque strap and using the best possible material for them.

Well that ought to rattle someone's cage!

BTW, this is the first time I am seeing someone rating a clutch in horsepower instead of torque. Clutches go bad and slip not because of horsepower, but because torque...

Regardless: this looks interesting amid all the complaints from Clutch Masters kits.

It is very odd to rate a clutch in HP.

Need to know price, looking forward to it.

Great point, can't believe these first response posts not even asking that!!

Chris, why do you rate your clutch in hp? It is holding torque and should be rated in torque as hp is calculated based on RPM from the engine...if you put this clutch on say the E90 M3 with a stage 3 kit it'll put down say 400wtq to 8400rpm flat, eventually peaking at WHP = WTQ * RPM / 5252, so in this M3 application it'll make 640WHP, so 700+hp flywheel...

now that take and look at a 500whp curve on the N54, 500whp is made at a much lower RPM than 8400rpm with MORE torque...

So in the end, the clutch that WILL work on a 700+hp M3 with an 8400rpm redline may totally go to SHIT on a 600hp N54 because its TORQUE holding capacity is simply less...

so, having said all that, what the torque rating of these clutch kits?

I rate all of our clutches in horsepower even though you are correct, it is the torque that matters. The stage 1 clutch holds 600ft-lbs, stage 2 holds 650 ft-lbs and stage 3 holds 725ft-lbs. I rate them in horsepower because so many people don't how much torque their cars make. Those figures are at the wheels as well.

Pricing will be "slightly" over the $1K point. I'll have the product on our site next week once we get the kit installed in Tim's car so people can check out the final pricing there.

Chris.

Chris,

Is there going to be love for AT guys in the near future? I wouldn't mind a trasnmission overhaul to handle 700 hp. Your clutches do look nice

Ok, fair enough, thanks

Do you have any vids/pics of the actual installs of these same clutch kits on some high torque cars which see heavy street/strip usage?

I can get more than two ACT clutches for the same price.
Will the HPF clutch be twice as good?

I can see that it's a Sachs pressure plate and a LUK/Valeo disc, so there should be no problems finding the parts on your own...

Anyone that has ever driven an HPF full face feramic clutch knows what the driveability is like. If you prefer an ACT and want to pay less than by all means do so. For daily driving, the clutch engagement is extremely important. A harsh engaging clutch can make someone want to sell their car. The factory spends a great deal of time trying to make an organic (long lasting material) with a smooth engagement that takes an inch of pedal movement to fully engage the clutch. We've bridged the gap with our full face feramic clutches that still create the factory feel yet can handle twice or three times the power.

We will definitely be putting this clutch to the test. Once Tim's car is up and running, if anyone else has a competitors clutch that they would like to compare to ours then please let me know.

Thanks.
Chris.

Well we will just wait for the reviews, so far all the guys who went act love it. Feels like stock, except it holds a ton of power. The guys who went with CM had issues, some did ok. Other clutch kits ive read about either felt like shit or failed or both.

Myself, im never to hard on a clutch, 57k tuned for 56.5 making over 400wtq and still ont he stocker but its showing signs here and there.

Will you clutch work with the stock flywheel or is that something that has to be upgraded as well? If it works with the stock flywheel and turns out to be legit I will just wait 5 months untill you realize you are not selling any and drop the price by 500 bucks lol.
