JB+ Limp Mode (30%)

I have JB+ set at the 10 o'clock position. I was at the track this weekend (Streets of Willow) and the ambient temperature were hovering around 95°F. After about 7 hot laps I got limp mode at an oil temp of about 290 - 300°F. Tried again after cooling the engine down and got limp mode halfway through the course with low oil temps of about 180°F. Later that evening, after cooling the car for hours, I got limp mode when accelerating when entering the freeway. Same thing happened the following day when getting on the freeway. Both times, I shut off the engine and restarted and everything was fine. Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm gonna remove the tune today and see if happens again. Could this be HPFP? I bought the car CPO and it has the HPFP replacement sticker in the engine. Is there anyone in the antelope valley or LA area that can read codes for me?

This sounds like what happened to me, although after two times of going into limp mode it stayed there constantly.

My 2008 335i is at the dealership right now, they dont know what the problem is as of yet, i just got off the phone with them maybe 15 minutes ago

Did you also have a JB+ installed? Keep us updated with your situation.

No i just caught that, mine is stock, although the situation is pretty much the same.

Ill defiantly keep you appraised of what happens, or what they find out.

Thanks! I'm wondering if its HPFP for you. Have you ever gotten your HPFP replaced? When I bought my car CPO'd it had the HPFP sticker in the engine bay. I'm pretty sure that it was replaced on mine. Good luck with your problem.

Actually this is the third time its going in for the same problem, its just been getting worse, it never went into limp mode before the third time, first two times it was randomly but rarely staggering, like it was trying to go into limp mode.

They have replaced the HPFP twice, once under the recall in December, and once again about 2 weeks ago now. Infact the new replacement made it worse, felt like i had lost power in the car before it hit limp mode.

Wow, that sounds horrible. Maybe BMW will just buy your car back as a lemon.

I can only hope, unfortunately my car is out of warranty, although the work they are doing is under warranty due to it failing initially under warranty.

Could be a number of things unless you have a code reader it'll all be speculation. The symptoms you described happened to me and it was a boost leak, though I had the BT scan tool that allowed me to read the problem.

You need to scan the car so we can see what code got triggered. Without that it's just guessing.

UPDATE: I removed the JB+ and the car does not go into limp mode anymore. I am still planning on purchasing a BT scan tool and pull my codes. Is there anyone in LA that wants to help me pull my codes right now since I don't have the scan tool yet?

Why not purchase the peake research tool R5FCX3? You can read and clear all your codes. For $139, is well worth the investment. Put back your JB+, do a solenoid bypass, and turn that sucker up to 50-75%.

I was finally able to purchase a BT Tool and I just scanned the car. Just as you guys said, I got the 30FF. Is there something wrong with the car? Should I bring it to the dealer? Should I clear the code before going in? Attached below is the readout from BT Tool.

Im wondering this as well. I just put my jb+ back on today at 10 oclock myself, was running it around 9 before. I missed it the week I had it off (dealer visits).

Just got back from a weekend of racing at road america, post solenoid bypass with JB+ still at 50%. I flew around the track (slaying numerous E46 M3's), and NO MORE code 30FF. If you install this tune, and get code 30FF, just go to the Juice Box website, download the install instructions for JB2, and look for the page that covers how to perform a solenoid bypass. Please note that cars like mine with the newer software (post HPFP recall) will throw code 30FF regardless of JB+ setting. I'll now crank her up to 75%, to see if I can get some more fun out of this nice tune.
