Removed the Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) - nice driveability improvements !
I noticed that I am not the only one who felt a jerky movement/thump from the drivetrain whenever I changed gears (and not paying attention to slowly release the clutch), which I described in detail here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=557685 Today I decided to modify my CDV and get rid of the restrictor inside it. And wow, the problem is 80% gone (but keep in mind that I have also installed my LSD today, however I don't think it has anything to do with it). In normal driving I cannot induce the thump and jerky movement, only if I really try. The shifting especially from 1-2 and 2-3 is most of the time flawless, you almost can't feel it, like it's an automatic gearbox My advice: instead of buying a $20 + shipping "professionaly ported" CDV from BMS or other shops, buy a $7 CDV from Tischer or your local dealer and stick a screwdriver inside the CDV and use a small hammer to pop the restrictor out, like here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=18 You can also do this to your old CDV, of course. My favorite mod ... I found the biggest improvement in smoothness getting off the line and reversing.
And it will help the clutch last longer. I can't believe BMW even installed one of these on our cars. Makes me sad inside.

To put it in perspective, the M3 OEM CDV is hollow, just like the modified CDVs on the market. I suppose BMW assumes M3 owners know how to drive and the 335i owners dont?

They used the restrictive CDV in the 335 to allow more clutch slippage and make the car idiot-prone to stalling..it is pathetic that they did this..if you dont know how to drive an MT then just get an AT

I also wonder how much is the M3 version and whether it can be used on the 335i....

The valve housing, among parts that surround it look identical between the M3 and the 335i. However, I don't know anyone that has done this. At around ~$8, its worth a try. Well an advantage of using the modified CDV vs doing the delete is you dont have to worry about pulling the steel lines and possibly breaking em..honestly for $20 what is really lost by using the modified one

I replaced my OEM one with the M3 "CDV" and it made a difference. The M3 one doesn't have the restrictor.

Got mine installed a week ago along with the clutch stop, by far the best $25 I spent and my manual driving experience is MUCH better

This is very cool.
I wonder if replacing the stock 335i CDV with a stock M3 CDV qualifies it as NOT voiding the car's warranty(?), though I think I know the answer before I asked the question. Plan to swap out mine during my next(between services) indy shop oil change. $8, what the hell! |
