Moving to Ashburn
Okay, I'm not moving to Ashburn, but my work is. I currently work in Tysons, which is a <10 minute commute. Everyone in my building will be moving to our Ashburn campus by the end of the year. Probably a 30-45 minute commute for me.
On the plus side, it looks like I'll spend more time in my car. On the minus side, that time will be spent mostly in traffic. I guess I don't really have a question. I just had to vent to my DC-area brothers.

Yes, I work for VZ. The office I am in is a former MCI office. There are going to be lots of people moving out to Ashburn by the end of this year, not just my building. So I guess it will suck a lot worse for some other people. Also, I guess I will lose my key parking spot where nobody door dings me.
Several of us who work for VZ are going to move to Ashburn, not just my building. It will start getting more crowded out there. One good thing, I guess, is they say they're going to build a fitness facility on the Ashburn campus, which is sorely needed.

Ouch! My commute now is not fast, but it's because it is all back roads to my office, speed limit of 35. In theory, I could do the whole thing in 2nd gear. Sounds like you pretty much could, too.

You'll have a reverse commute so traffic won't be too bad on the toll road with EZpass. We should do lunch when you get settled in
At least you'll be closer to BMW of Sterling |

I live within 3 miles of the VZ Campus in Ashburn...currently work for Sprint (which sucks)...any good internal job postings within corporate finance or program management...??? I'd love to work 3 miles from home.

I work in Finance at Verizon and if you want any type of Finance job, it'll be in Basking Ridge, NJ where our HQ is located. There are a few of us that didn't have to move there last year, but eventually with the VP we have nowadays, more positions will be moving there in the future.

I thought the same thing -- "at least I'll be closer to BMW of Sterling." As much as I like Passport and intend to keep giving them my business, it would be nice to go someplace closer for things like picking up a set of floor mats, getting an oil change, test driving the new M3, etc. I am not sure, but if you really are interested, I can see what I can find out.

I'm not terribly pressed to look for a new job, I just don't like the executive team I support here at sprint. This company has trouble competing with the Vz, in fact, I don't think we're in the same league anymore...
Since Vz is SO close to my house, next time I start looking, I'll definitely check out jobs there...

Traffic should not be bad at all. You are still going opposite direction of most travelers. Other than Rt. 7's obnoxious lights, it should be smooth sailing...
Looks like everything is coming to Ashburn |
