335 Engine

So today I went to pick up my 2003 540i from the shop and the owner saw my 335i and started to chat about the car, engine and how he loves the torqued up car... After that he said the engines suck, that if there is ever a major work that needs to be done, BMW will just throw it out and repalce the engine instead (lemoning the car etc..). I have 98k on my 540i and the engine is a freaking tank and will last another 200,000 miles. So does this guy know what he is talking about on the 335 engine? I am new to the 3 series and I really like the way the car feels and handles but I am suprised to hear that BMW has started to make such cheaply made engines if that is the case.

the motor in the 335i is awesome, it's just little things here and there that makes it not work properly. If BMW improves the fuel system, turbos etc, the 335i will be bulletproof.

BMW does that with all their motors and transmissions if under warranty or CPO. Has nothing to do with whether it's a 335i or not. And they have had this policy for quite a while.

every engine is gonna last 200k miles..... I have never heard of engines dying. its the other things that will get u. I don't know what the deal is with your 540I, but my friend had many problems with his 528I.

335i engine will also last a long time, turbos will die much sooner
