Found damage on my car this morning
So, I walked out of my house to find this today:
I am trying to figure out what happened. Theory #1 is that someone hit it in the parking lot at work last night. This is possible, but it seems odd to me that the damage would be so high up with nothing scratched down lower. IT was dark when I got out of work and it very well could have been this way and I wouldn't have seen it. Theory #2 is that a tree limb fell on it overnight. It's been storming here for the past two days and the area where I park is along woods. There were numerous large tree limbs on the ground outside along the edge of the parking area. There wasn't a piece up against the car, but I live in a townhome community, so it's possible one of them was moved by another resident. If a big piece came down it may have been blocking a parking spot or in the way and someone could have moved it before I found my damage. There are several large tree limbs a few feet away that weren't there previously that are big enough to have done the damage, but may have been moved aside prior to my finding it. Nobody else's cars are there for me to see if they have damage too. This is plausible, since the car was pulled in (not backed in) to the wooded area. I'm wondering if the damage is consistent with this however. It looks like the force was directed "inwards" rather than down like I would expect from a falling object. Insurance adjuster said $983 for repairs. Unfortunately my deductible is $1k. Therefore, I'm considering just getting another hood.

Someone with a raging boner was doing inappropriate things to the hood of your car.
Or trailer hitch.

Hmm since this is coming out of my pocket anyway and the hood is the really noticeable part (I can live with the little scuff between the kidney grills, it'll probably buff out for the most part) I'm considering just getting a new hood.
I've had this one bookmarked for months, but I am on the fence about whether it looks "ricey" or not. Any thoughts? http://www.**********s.com/Carbon-Fi...-328i-335i.htm |

Find a machine shop or a hot shot mechanic and they can most likely do a paintless dent repair... it looks like its only the rim and my mechanic did almost the same thing (from a douche truck driver putting his car in reverse in the Fing drive through) and the invoice came out to about $175...

Is your adjustor is calculating the claim under comprehensive or collision? I ask as the comprehensive deductible is often much lower.
When one large tree limb damaged both my 328i wagon (new hood, etc.) and my wife's Ford (new sunroof), the $4k was picked up by our insurance under a comprehensive claim. As our comprehensive deductible is only $50 (as opposed to a collision deductible of $500), it only cost us $100 for the two damaged cars. Either way, sorry for your loss. Tom |

They both have tiny scuffs and one has a crack. It's just not easy to see.

A member on here is selling an M3 rep hood that fits my car for a decent price. I might go that route.

Not a tree limb
Unless the tree limb was falling horizontally it is innocent.
I'd say it was a hit and run. Any security cameras about the parking area? Sorry to see the damage and I hope you can make some lemonade out of this lemon event. Regards, CraigB |
