Recoding
Hello new to the site. Third BMW, long story later. Picked up my new 128 convertible Thanksgiving eve and had someone hit me Monday. New passenger door, etc
So while she is in the garage I ask if they could recode for the digital speedometer read out and stop the door dong. No one has heard of the digital speed option and said it may be a DIY only. Has anyone had this done at a dealership? If it is a DIY is there a video or step by step instructions? My wife has a new z4 and wants it done on here also.

I doubt you can get a dealer to do it but they are capable. The digital speedometer is in the KOMBI module of a 1 series and the specific command you change is BC_DIGITAL_V. It is currently set to "nict_activ" and you have to change this to "activ" and reload the module. I know of no reason the dealer couldn't or shouldn't make the change but I doubt if they will.
If you have a convertible, do you have comfort access? If not, you should also want the top to go down with the key fob as you walk up to the car. That comes with comfort access but I don't have it but coded the changes to make it happen anyway. If you want to know more about coding, I recommend you visit b m w c o d i n g.com (eliminate the spaces). There is lots of good information. You need to spend about $100 on the cable (it has a converter built in) and download the software and you can do these things. You will want to start with the tutorial, available at the same website. Thanks. My daughter works for them and the techs said they would attempt it they just did not know it was an option.

If they are feeling generous, you might want to do more of these:
coding Module setting old new open top with fob CVM KOMFORT_BEDIENUNG_E88_C05 WERT_01 WERT_02 CAS KOMFORTOEFFUNG_FB aktiv windows all the way down CVM SCHEIBEN_FUNK_E88_C05 WERT_01 WERT_02 windows up when closing with inside buttonCVMSCHEIBEN_TASTER_E88_C05 WERT01 WERT_02 turn off speedometer correction KOMBI BC_V_KORREKTUR AKTIV NICT_ACTIV enable digital speedometer KOMBI BC_DIGITAL_V nict_activ aktiv turn off digital speedometer correctionKOMBI BC_DIGITAL_V_KORREKTUR nict_activ aktiv turn off chime for low temperaturekombi CC_TEMPERATURWARNUNG nict_activ aktiv I'm not sure the last one works. The first two changes give you the top opening with the key fob without comfort access. The first "turn off the correction on the speedometer" doesn't fix the analog. The second one fixes the new digital speedometer, however, I get readings normally the same as the GPS and never more than 1 mph different. Jim
