We Visit the Lamborghini Museum

Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting the Lamborghini Museum is located in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy. It is quite close to Modena, Italy. I had traveled to Modena to go visit the new Enzo Ferrari Musuem (opened just this year) and also to visit the (old & and still open!) Ferrari Museum in Maranello. I did not schedule any tours... I just got in my car and drove down to Northen Italy. The first day I visited Ferrari and the next day I visited Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. - and what a day THAT was. I have never considered myself a Lambo man... but I must say I totally enjoyed the Lambo Museum - much more than either Ferrari Musuem I visited.

I headed out to Lamborghini S.p.A. first thing in the morning. I really did not know what to expect. But as my GPS counted down the kilometers... I was thinking to myself its a strange place to build a hyper exotic car factory like Lamborghini. All I could see was farm lands and ruined old buildings. It was really weird! And then as I came down the main highway... there it was! Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. And what a place it was!


Like I said... I did not know what to expect. I just knew the museum opened at 10am and I drove in my car so I was there when they opened their doors. As I entered the factory gates... I saw a big tour bus there. I was greeted by a nice Lambo security guard... he held a remote that opened the factory gates so I could park my car! How cool is that! As I walked up past the guard and into the museum... one of the Lambo test drivers pulled up in a brand new Lamborghini Aventador. God could have taken me right there and then... the sound of that machine was pure sex! It was some fire orange color... and this car just is the poster child for Lambo.

I then walked inside the museum to pay my thirteen euros to see their two floor (small) museum... but then the nice (and gorgeous) Italian lady asked me ..."would you also like to do a factory tour"? Does anyone ever say No to THAT!? SURE I do!!! But how much does that cost? She said fourty euros for the two hour factory tour and it includes the museum too. Sign me up! Like I said... it was an great day!

The tour lasted just over two hours and was really well done. Our tour guide gave the entire back story on Mr. Lamborghini and how he got his start building farm tractors after WWII. He became so successful that he bought himself a Ferrari just down the street in Modena. But alas the clutch was of a poor design and Mr. Lamborghini requested a meeting with Enzo Ferrari to express his dissatisfaction with his poorly designed clutch. Well... Enzo was having nothing of that and blew him off when he met with Lamborghini. And hence Mr. Lamborghini decided right then to build himself his own sports car. And the rivalry was born. Ferruccio Lamborghini vs Enzo Ferrari was the thing of Legends.

Once inside the factory walls, just a few steps from the museum... we were greeted with parked Lambo's everywhere! Our guide explained to us that the cars parked on the right are customer cars that all have been made to order. Lambo does not sell "off the rack" so to speak. And all the cars parked on our left were R&D cars. Some had special equipment attached to test the cars. We then walked into the factory floor. The place was small but clean and bright. I was surprised to hear that Lambo only makes FOUR cars per day! Also there is over a two year waiting list for their new Aventador.


After our factory tour ended... we were free to walk around the museum and gift shop near by. One thing I found really cool was that ALL the cars on the first floor were production cars. ALL the cars on the second floor were prototypes! Needless to say I liked the second floor!! So with out further ado.. here are my pics.

Intresting story for Valentino Balboni, by working for Lamborghini so many years, and all started from a desire to push a super sports car, even for that time, although he knew was wrong, was the instinct and the pleasure of seeing a sports car.
Many of us think that we changed 5-6 jobs, we find nothing to make us stay in any of the jobs.
Let's be serious now, Who hires people like Valentino by feelings that sees them as people with a desire to do anything for the job?

Although they are both cool, it's amazing how much "cleaner" the green Countach is compared to the body-cladded silver one. That light green Mirua looks fantastic as does the Estoque concept.

Very nice ! The Lamborghini and Ferrari museums are definitely on my to do list when I visit Italy. I believe the Pagani factory is also nearby? Is that place also open to the public?

Yea Marco, I really liked the Lambo Museum bc it was so laid back and the cars were there to be enjoyed by the visitor. Heck that silver Countach even had dead bugs still on it!! You wouldn't see that over at Ferrari!

While visiting Lambo I also visited both Ferrari Museums (Maranello and new Enzo Museum in Modena) and also the Mr. Panni's Maserati Museum. There are all within 20km of each other. I highly recommend Mr. Panni's Museum and Bio Farm.

Yes, Pagani and Bugatti(where the EB110 was made, not the Veron!) are also all close by around the Modena area.

I was there in February 2012 and I agree- what an awesome experience. After my factory tour and seeing the time, effort, skill and artistry employed, I felt that you really couldn't say the cost wasn't worth it. Truly amazing.
