Garage color for my 330i
I'm remodeling the home for my black 330i. The garage was in pretty bad condition!
I was wondering if anyone had some ideas on cool colors for the wall paint? I'm looking for something bright to go with a light gray epoxy floor paint I'm putting down. The walls are now an eggshell (standard contractor color for a garage). Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm partial to lighter wall colors as it will be easier for you to see details on your car when you work on it. Darker colors absorb light and make your car look smaller.

Top that kind of devotion - I think not possible

Not sure the size of your garage but the more light the better if your going to be doing any work on your car in there.. I'd go with the alpine white.

I'm not a big fan of light-colored garages because it always seems like the walls get all scuffed up like instantaneously.
Aesthetically, though, clean white(ish) walls would probably be best... what about putting up that fiberglass/plastic wallboard you see in commercial bathrooms? That's pretty sturdy stuff. |

Garage-
A few suggestions;
Depending on your environment, make sure that your floor will support the epoxy paint. Have you done the Saran Wrap test? Walls should always be white- make sure you get a paint specifically designed for that type of environment. Use semi-gloss, it will help with light. Consider FRP for the walls- they make some INCREDIBLE colors & finishes now. If you don't want FRP to completely cover the walls, consider laying the sheets horizontally and then using a chair rail for the division. Use the opportunity to install some good lighting. Check out the Griot's Garage catalog- very pricey. Some of it's worth it, some of it's just overpriced. They have my cc on file. You can, however, get some ideas from them. Good Luck. |

Ah hah! That's what that stuff's called!
http://www.professionalplastics.com/...Ceiling-Panels You can also get polyethylene wall panels but I've tried them and they suck -- way too soft and scuffable. |

Just got in from a day of golf. I see a number of suggestions and I appreciate it! Alpine white has a couple votes.
I like the white idea but keeping it clean is a concern and it will probably take 2-3 coats of white to cover all of the stains now on the walls. I'm on a budget so the wall panels are out but they would definitely hold up well. What's the saran wrap test? I'm etching the concrete floor prior to applying the 2-part epoxy floor paint. Maybe I'll go with the white walls and paint the trim Lemans blue! Keep the ideas coming though, I don't start painting the walls until Thursday or Friday.

White walls....gray floor with the specks added to the floor is very nice...and lots of fluorescent lights I have two double 6 footer's in my garage and I'm getting another one (its a one car garage) at night I light up the street when the door is up. Pays off though as I can see any tiny streak after detailing. Good Luck....post some before and after photos!!!

orange
i'm an interior designer, so i have "funky" taste, but orange always goes well with grey and black, and is a popular choice for "features" atm

White walls, gray floor (with blue/white/black specks), new lighting, and a lot of enclosed storage. That's my plan. Hanging this and that all over the walls is over I hope.
I intended to take a before and after picture but forgot to take the before picture. Damn! I was about half way through removing things from the garage and it hit me. So... I'll get to take that "after" picture. Does anyone know where I could get some really big BMW graphics, posters, or garage type items? I check eBay a lot but don't have anything yet. Thanks!

Moisture
If you have ANY degree of moisture coming up through your floor- the paint will not last on the floor.
Take a 6x6 inch piece of saran wrap and tape it (well) to the floor with duct tape. Make sure the seal around the wrap is airtight. Naturally, make sure the floor is clean and dry so the tape seals. Give it 48 hours. If you see ANY moisture under the wrap, the paint will not adhere to the floor, regardless of etching. If the wrap is dry, you are good to go. IF your walls are stained, there are paints designed to cover all that- Zinser, Stainz, StainBlocker & a few others I can't think of at the moment. Readily available everywhere. The FRP can be expensive. Go big or go home! Just kidding. Good paint will wash easily and wear very well- you can wipe the walls as if you had the FRP. Notice I said "GOOD" paint- don't skimp on the quality or application you get. Good luck! Oh, hit up your dealer for some wall candy. Explain what you are doing and that you are trying to create something special. Model years are changing- they should be able to find something. |
