Heated Wing Mirrors

Dew on mirrors at 14 degreses switchedon de mist nothing.

Apparently they will only come onat 10 degrees or lowerat varying percentages

Can the wing mirrors be coded to come on at full pelt whenever the button is pressed?

Im sure i remember reading in the manual that they come on at certain temp but not sure about varying powe. Dont think it can be controlled.
Have always thought there should be a switch for them same as majority of cars.

According to my Owners Manual the door mirrors are heated automatically - depending on outside air temperature - whenever engine or ignition is on.

I also recall reading on this forum some time ago that the temperature schedule for warming the mirrors is modified by selecting the wipers to auto (if fitted - even if it's not raining). This heats the mirrors at higher air temps.

At least on my car, it seems to be nothing to do with "de-mist" - assuming by that you mean the rear window heater.

Hope that helps. Cheers !!

I had a problem with the element on my passenger side mirror glass at the beginning of this year. The mirror wasn't heating but the driver's side was fine. I replaced the whole glass with an eBay special. Works perfectly now. If there is a fault, it will throw a fault code which is helpful.

No, only SE and above. Somebody posted the operating parameters once - I cant remember exactly but it's something like <2 degrees full power, <5 degrees half power. Wipers on or heated rear window give half power too. So if it's 5 degrees but you have your wipers on you'll get full power.

E90 msport - 7.5 degrees this am and they cleared in about 2 mins.

I thought that the rear demist needed to be on (which is crap and very slow) as well as the electric wing mirror switch being over to the right (drivers wing mirror) for them to work??

BMW's aren't really luxury cars unless you part with a lot of dough . A Ford will always out-spec a BMW for the money, and by a long shot.

I had read demist and front on, I know with my e46 if front went on they came on no matter what. I will have to wait and see what happens next time, mine is an Msport and it is listed, worse case I will call a dealer, seems stupid as they were misty and did not clear.

E46 were on all the time. On the e90 if you put the heated rear window on and auto-wipers then the mirrors will heat regardless of outside temp.

not got auto wipers lol so rules that out!

On my e46 they use to only come on if i stuck the front demist on, which made sense to me, thought the E9 would be the same, guess not

That's not right. I can force mine on at any temp. Mine cleared this am at 7.5 degrees.

Have you tried the wing mirror switch to the right and the rear demist on? This puts mine on.

Will try it next time i get the right conditions, what I said about 5c is from a tech at BMW, yet does seem stupid to me that certain conditions wont trigger it, makes sense if a demister is on or something like it, I will try that though as i know my mirror switch was on left last night, I just happen to notice it

AFAIK, 5C is correct. Above that, they don't work.
