Weird tapping noise coming from (what seems like) the driver's footwell?

Has anyone encountered this?

I drive a '09 E92 335i and haven't been able to find anything about this.

It is not every day and goes away when I accelerated but at idle it just "tick tick ticks"..

I read the sticky thread but do not believe that it is the same thing.

Put your ear near the hood release and see if the noise is coming from there. If so, bad news..
