BMW 1 M Break In Service Fluids **Final**

There are so many threads about the right oil, transmission, and differential fluids for the BMW 1 M. I was hoping we could consolidate all the the proper fluids into one final thread. So if someone could please post all the proper info that would be great. Thnx

If the dealer does the trans fluid, they usually bill you for 1.3L of LT-5. That is what the gearbox takes but if you buy it, you usually have to get two 1L bottles.

Is the diff part number listed here different from the one pictured above?

The only difference between the two is the one pictured contains a friction modifier.

A question for anyone that has had their car serviced at VPC - do you get paperwork with full detail what was done, and equally importantly - what fluids were used? Picking mine up next Friday at PCD, and was told my service was done already for me upon US port delivery.

Caution: The MTF-LT5 tranny fluid will have different BMW part #'s, depending on whether it is the 1L bottle (83-22-2-167-666) or large drum (likely 83222156969). Can someone confirm the MTF-LT5 DRUM part #?

So they did it for you without requesting???

Because mine will require the 1200 mile service (due to ED) at the VPC. I wasnt sure if I should request, and whom to contact. And I want to be sure they are using correct fluids.

PLease ///M1, keep us posted in info.

Yup, it'll be done without you requesting if you are over the 1200 miles and the service indicator is on. I went above the 1200 miles while in Europe, but was in Czech Republic and Hungary where when I checked, neither of the 5 dealers in a 150km radius had even seen a 1///M, let alone service one. They were clueless as far as fluids needed, so I thought the lesser evil is to drive her a tad over the 1200 miles but at least get her serviced by a knowledgable center and tech.

My SA told me VPC will do it automatically for any car that arrives and the OBD indicates it is due for service. I am just a little nervous if they will use the correct fluids. Hopefully I will get a full breakdown on the paperwork what was done. Will keep you guys posted.

Similar to Artemis, just looking at my invoice:
- Gearbox oil (Schaltgetrieböl) MTF-LT-5 Part# 83222156969
- Diff oil (Differentialöl) 75W/140 SAFXJ Part # 410

And if any of our German speaking 1Addicts can have a crack at this, these were additional parts that the dealership changed (for free as part of the 3yr service warrantee). Not sure if these items are part of the standard run in service (thats what the dealer intimated) or if it was incidental and specific to my car.

Kostenlose Positionen
- 0000105 Service Standardumfang 2 Arb.-Wert
- 0000600 Service Einfahrkontrolle 4 Arb.-Wert
- 11427566327 Ölfiltereinsatz 1 Stück
- 33117525064 Verschlussschraube mit O-Ring 2 Stück
- 0000610 Service Motoröl 3 Arb.-Wert
- 23127602815 Verschlussschraube 1 Stück
- 0012495 Fahrzeugpflege BSP 3 Arb.-Wert

Compared to CH1M, was equally indicated on my invoice (but not free of charge) (apart from what I stated in my previous message):
- [1]0000105 Service standard scope 2 time units
- [1]0000600 Service break-in control 4 time units
- [1]0000610 Service engine oil 3 time units
- 11427566327 Set oil filter element/component 1 piece

Additionally on my invoice:
- 10012559 Car test 2 time units
- environmental tax + small material 1 piece

Not indicated on my invoice (compared to CH1M):
- 33117525064 Verschlussschraube mit O-Ring 2 pieces
- 23127602815 Verschlussschraube 1 piece
- 0012495 Fahrzeugpflege BSP 3 time units (probably the environmental tax)

The part numbers on the bottles pictured match the one posted by tkbrown at the beginning of the thread.

Metric Mechanic, who is well versed in all things differentials, said to use a 70W140 in their diffs. I asked them about it for the diff on my 318i. I also had the Ford gear oil aditive (more commonly known as "whale piss"). We used this stuff in noisy Toyota Supra diffs 20 years ago.

So, I proactively called up the service dept. at my dealer, and I inquired about what fluids they will be using. They seem to deviate. Keep in mind, this place is an ice block during winter time:

oil 10w60
LT5 transmission fluid
an otherwise unspecified m BMW diff fluid

Should I take it to another dealer? I assume I'm still covered for service at any dealer. Do I need to provide them with anything like my bill of sale? Thanks!

The correct diff fluid is the SAF-XJ +FM (friction modifier) as shown above in the thread. This has been the fluid used in the M diffs since the E46. There is an SAF-XJ without the booster as well, but it's not correct for this application. Any good dealer should be on top of this.

The correct oil for the N54B30T0 is BMW 5w30 Synthetic.

The correct transmission fluid is MTF-LT5.... but.... In June BMW revised their 2011MY maintenance service bulletin to remove the transmission fluid change from the 1200 mile service for the 1M. This document specifically states what BMW will pay for and by removing the transmission change it means that dealers will likely stop changing the transmission fluid soon. This would also explain why some people are reporting that their transmission fluid wasn't changed. I know that the service booklet says something different, but the service bulletins always take priority.

Just FYI...
