Wow, glad they're taking care of it. How long will it be out of commission? Also, how bad do you think the carbon buildup is? I'm at 43k and I don't feel as if I can really tell.

Kind of afraid of this. Any way to look at the belt to notice ripping or anything of the sort? (from a lift a least). My warranty is up in June (model 2008).

Bumping an old thread....having the same problem with my car.

Belt shredded on me while I was on the highway. Took it to my mechanic...he had to replace the tensioner pulley, and two other pulleys because of the damaged the belt did when it shredded.

I get the car back and two days later it happens again. Luckily I was right down the block from my mechanic, so I brought it right in. They took it all apart and said the good news is nothing was damaged.....now we're trying to figure out what is causing the belt to shred. Did anyone ever figure this out? My mechanic has already ruled out the possibility of it rubbing against the subframe, but can't tell me what is doing it.

I know I am responding to an old thread, but the N54 have known "belt making contact with subframe" issue. it is a design flaw.

Any updates on this? Or was this just a bunch of guys who were drag racing/launching their cars and got some brutal axle hop to cause the belt to contact the front subframe - causing the belt/crankshaft pulley to be damaged. ?

I thought I had seen at least one recent thread where someone reported this happened to them within the last year, I'll have to do a quick search.

Found it... Looks like no clear answer there either: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...1063860&page=2

From what I remember, there was a bulletin for the serpentine belt. They replaced the belts and pulleys as well as the shroud fan and front axle support. Probably from launching our cars lol.

Isn't it fucking great when you lose power steering completely? Between this belt snapping on me and the fuel pump shitting out during a particularly tedious stretch of road (mountains of West Virginia on a 45 degree grade), I've almost lost my life twice.

Edit: I've never launched my car.

Does the N55 have this issue with belts?
