*Noobie* TPMS functionality question
Hey folks,
I have another question that I can't find an exact answer for. I'm purchasing a summer set tires/wheels. Currently have stock 264s. My question is to have my new wheels working how my old ones do, what must I purchase? TPMS? TPMS Valve? And is it just an install? I don't understand how the standalone TPMS on the tire connects to the module in the car as there is no physical connection. Thanks everyone! Any and all advice will be read |

I have a set of 4 from a 2011 528i. You will have to Xref part numbers for your year. PM if interested. $80 + shipping.

You would want the TPMS (tires pressure monitoring system) "sensors" which usually include valve stem.
They work by radio frequency and communicate with the TPMS module in the trunk. So there's no physical connection. They also have a set battery life which any reputable tire shop can check for you. www.rockauto.com and even ebay/amazon tends to have them at a reasonable price. Just make sure you have the ones that work with your model year and model car (the frequency can vary...most common is 433mhz) |

just for the record, i think older E82s (before 2011 i believe) don't need TPMS as they have RPA or something similar (it just means they measure the diameter of the tire and trips when the diameter reaches a set amount). my 2008 didn't need TPMS anyhow.
