128 coupe options not yet posted, however a quick scan over the vert looks exactly the same as 2010. NO DCT for the vert, I will assume the same for cpe.

Also, this is just speculation on my part. But given that the 135i will recieve the DCT, odds are good to see the new engine from the Z435si in this car as a higher model. Not saying "M", but a 135iS would not be unreasonable

well a quick peek behind the curtain is also showing other cars with "iS" designation with DCT.

Oh.. & there is nothing confirmed yet about the single turbo in this car... although I personally am expecting it.

Dave,
Is there 135 with iS designation?
Basically 135 is a carry over with DCT as a new option?
DCT is interesting option, knowing that existing 6 speed manual cant handle uprated N54 according to BMW..
1 & 3 LCI series will not get N55 according to sources on e90post.

Woah, DCT available on the 135i? Is it an a la carte option on every 135i or one has to get the 135iS model to get it?

Don't know, rumors have it coming in a year or so... as an SS designation. I personally think we will see an iS car. The 11' 3 series looking at initial order info has an iS version. The Z4 obviously has it, so why not the 1er? There is no other reason to offer the DCT at this point IMO. The 135i has been a bonafied hit for BMW & would only benefit from the performance bump. More importantly, people will buy it.

it appears to replace the ZF tranny. Again, it is just SPECULATION at this point that there will be an iS model. It is my belief there will be one, but is NOT based on facts.

my 128 has been flawless... as have the ones I've sold. My feeling is that the new engine, assuming it comes will fix many of those issues 135 owners have had. I truly think this BMW's response to the issues at hand.

actually my engine's been pretty good, just one HPFP so far. but the rest of the car is another story, I don't mean to be down on the new 1er upgrades, I love the car and it's absolutely great to drive, but for me the issues have been too much, that and I really, REALLY want a 335d

335d is a beast, by 2011 (4th production year) one would hope BMW would iron out all the bugs out of e82 1 series..
If there is 135 iS coming within 4 months - I am placing an order for it..

OK, see if I get this straight... The N54 would still be available so one might get an MT, and then the DCT would be had as the "auto" option, and/or as an IS package with an N55?

Do you think an is model would displace the M-sport model, or become one and the same?

I really like the M-sport with MT, and it would stink to see that setup go away...

Im starting to answer my own question...

N55 will not be in the 1er. N54 will be the "hotter" of the two 3.0L turbo engines, and will be around until at least 2013.

DCT will be necessary for power upgrades on the N54, as in a 135is or to get full capability from the BMW upgrade kit.

BMW "prides" itself on being a line that maintains MT availability in its cars. Therefore, no real reason an MT 135i would be unachievable... though going over some torque level is probably not smart.

For me, I think an MT N55 with the smart alternator would be the best set-up, as it gets me my MT with maximum efficiency gains... alas, I dont think Ill see it, and I do not think that anyone will see the single turbo (dual scroll) in a 135i this iteration...

Another thing... on the 2010 list, it shows option 677 - hi-fi sound system.

For that 2011 it lists 688 - harmon kardon surround sound.

Any idea of the difference?

exactly.. you summed it up pretty well.
There is no N55 with manual..
Hot N54 is only teamed up with DCT in hot Z iS.. BMW did say that manual wouldn't handle those upgrades (most of us with tuned N54s will disagree).
Manuals should and will continue..

I guess my only other question then is why no N55 with manual? If I understand correctly, the N55 gives up a bit of performance and ability to hit high RPM for valvetronic and a slightly different turbo unit - all very good for cruising vehicles, like the 5series, X5, etc. Anyway, the spec Ive seen is 400nm for torque, which is 295 ft-lb, which is doable by the MT.

I do not see indications of tuned N55 engines, as the N54 will be used as the powerful variant...

Though I guess it is a moot point, as there will be no N55 in a 135i anyway...

Thanks!
