EXT : LOS ANGELES DAY
In the city traffic a lone superbike (The BMW S1000RR) weaves in between the traffic it's heavenly sound reverberating off the tall skyscrapers that surround the street. It hits a red light - CLOSE on BMW badge.... (INSERT) LA SKYLINE - BIRDS-EYE VIEW.
Green... and the S1000 RR hits speed as it crosses an interchange , focus on the car that comes speeding through into view after the bike, engine roaring , performance at full visual , chases the bike through the streets of LA into the 2nd St Tunnel.... THE DUEL IS ON...

Sounds awesome! Now that's the BMW I know and love.... when might this air?

PS- Screw the auto-show introduction... release this commercial on the interwebs and allow it to go viral through social media and WOM. That's a fitting ///M1 intro for this day and age. Press will still get full court at the first show (later) anyway.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Let us see it first that ad sounds like an amazing ad.

But Scott...why have the ad in LA? Why not NYC? Have them go into the Battery tunnel

Yea a 375 hp m1 with 200lbs shaved off ,carbon fiber roof, m auto tranny,m suspension and a tune that thing is going to be bad ass! If thats the case i will be a buyer!

back to question mode (even if I didn't get answered until now - but this might be caused by my fuzzy questions ):

1. what wheel sizes/width front/back is planned? Can I hope for 245 front 265 rear?

2. Will the setup be razor-sharp neutral or a bit defensive/understeering?

Any ideas?

So first of all, this sounds like a fantastic commercial.

I just wonder if this would ever go to production. I can hear the whining now: "BMW encourages street racing in the worst kind of way"....

What pisses me off, is its the whining like that which caters only to the least common denominator that stops great stuff like this from being made.

Zero percent chance that it will be set up razor-sharp neutral from the factory. Every car built today has to be set up conservatively to be beginner friendly and safe. No company wants the reputation Porsche had with their snap oversteer-prone 911s. Drive a modern 911 and you'll notice it responds to most situations with tons of understeer unless you adapt to it and learn to drive slow-in, fast-out but they still have the stigma of scary snap oversteer among the less than knowledgeable.
