Trying to figure out brake squealing noise, ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!!!
Ok so here it goes, this is on my brothers 2009 1M......
AND, I KNOW ITS LENGTHY GUYS BUT PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE AND READ IT TO HELP ME OUT WITH IT BECAUSE ITS BEEN BOTHERING HIM AND ITS A CHALLENGE!! (P.S. i suck at explaining things so you'll most likely all be confused but please ask and ill respond ASAP because this is important to me PLEASE GUY PLEASE IM BEGGING!!!) Story goes like this, he replaced the break pads and rotors..Pads he replaces with ~Cool Performance Brake Pads~ an ROTORS with OEM replacements ~From Dealer~.......Driving around for about a year or longer and it starts to SQUEAL, so thinking "hey its only been a year " and i checked the rotors they were fine, i told him just replace the pads and maybe that'll work thinking because he says it makes noise when he steps on brake pedal slightly as well, so he replaces just the pads and about 6 months or a bit more then half a year later they AGAIN start to SQUEAL.....thinking now its not the bad rotors or pads, what could the SQUEALING be from? he called the vendors of the pads and they said those pads are the ones people buy due to the fact that they aren't suppose to make noise, and for the less brake dust, also BMWs dont have the metal clip to show the pads being worn because its electrical warnings now, so anyone have any ideas? I asked myself could it just be the pads themselves twice? AGAIN which is what i thought FIRST that maybe it was the actual pads and TBH i think I'm STILL thinking JUST MAYBE they have something to do with it BUT Try figuring this next part out.....when you put the bimmer in reverse and it rolls back ANY AND EVERY TIME you put her in reverse and she rolls back, the brakes squeal, ONLY WHEN IN REVERSE AND ROLLING BACK EVEN IF U DONT TOUCH THE BRAKE PEDAL EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT!!! but if NOT in reverse and rolls back, it won't squeal, so you can see my dilemma here when i can't figure out what has to do with what here, and i think I'm pretty smart mechanically lol so please guys bounce some ideas off me here!! if u need ANYMORE info ASK PLEASE!!!! |

Thats the problem with noises, you think there coming from one place but could be coming from a total different place, but I'm pretty sure its the rears to be honest.....its kinda annoying this squeaking noise lol |

I've got a squeal on my front left. Plenty of meat on the pads, rotors are fine for another while. Reaseating didn't do anything neither did cleaning the rotor off thoroughly. Just pad vibration for me. These can be terrible to pinpoint.

I was having brake noises. Brake shield got a little bent and was scraping so I bent it back.
If no obvious thing seems to be making contact, take the little M out on the highway at night when it's empty and give it some HARD braking from 70 down to 10 multiple times till you can smell the brakes then continue driving until they cool down. Bedding brakes fixed a squeal of mine once and fixed brake judder another when I thought my rotors were warped out of nowhere. |

There is no one fix for brake noise.. Id be putting in a fresh set of genuine pads and going from there.
Some pad/disc combos just make a lot of noise. Some will only make noise in reverse etc. Have you tried chamfering the leading edge of the pad? |

I've got it and have had it too. All three, maybe four tires. I sound like a city bus coming to a stop and BMW says it's "normal," even when taking them on a test drive.
New pads. New rotors. Once on me, second time - SECOND - on BMW. It's far from normal and I'm at my wits end with it. There seems to be this denial by BMW that this is a problem. One mechanic (non-BMW) said get Brembo's but it appears that Brembo doesn't make rotors for the 135i. |
