Best possible tires for 128i?
My runflats are just about bald now, and I was wondering what the best summer tires that they make for our cars are? My brother has a 335i and recently got michelin pilot super sports for it. My car is a 2012 128i Coupe Msport with stock 17 inch wheels.

in what application sense? Summer driving, winter driving? I'm assuming summer tires, so PSS(your brothers tires) would be your best bet if you drive mostly street with some autocross here and there, even a little track time.

yup depends on what you want.
if you want pure performance, PSS for sure. I run hankook V12 since they are pretty high performance, and also good in the rain and not as expensive. Granted, they are not as good as PSS for performance driving.

"while others will stick with the mainstream manufacturers, I’d take a real hard look at Grip Rite galvanized zinc coated sinkers. They’re a classic design, the sharpest nails made, and have amazing microcontact. Plus they’re hand assembled in Germany, not mass-produced in Taiwan."

Take a look at the Bridgestone RE11. I might go with these next summer. I'm still trying to decide between the RE11's and the Michelin PSS.
If you want a good street performance tire on a budget... Bridgestone 760's are supposed to be good. |

Whatever tires you decide to buy, it might be a good idea to go square rather than staggered...

I've run Dunlop Direzza Star Specs and Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my 128i, and I've loved both. I started with the Dunlops, and when I had to replace those, the PSS's had just come out and were actually cheaper than the Dunlops, which is why I tried them (there must've been some sale or rebate or something...). Anyway, now I think the Dunlops are a good deal cheaper. The Star Specs are great tires, but less refined than the PSS's and not as long-lasting.

I put Pirelli P Zeros on my 128i about six months ago and love the handling. For me at least they are quiet and comfortable. Kept the RFT in case I had to turn the car in at lease end.

Go with a squared setup if you can. There will be less understeer with a square setup and you have the ability to rotate your tires for maximum tire life.

Without a doubt the best tires are Michelin PSS. So many 1Addicts just rave and rave about these tires. And they are VERY good tires. But there are month other "good" tires out there too.
You really do not want to skimp on tires... bc they really make such an impact on the way your car drives. My new Michelin PS3’s 225’s & 255’s… http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...chelin+PS3%27s This is what I think of when we talk of "Good" tires vs "GREAT" tires...

V12 here. Good wear, good traction, inexpensive. Under 200 for 265/30R19 is a deal for me.

PSS is a good tire, but IMO it is not oriented for "performance driving"
Source: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=816915 Dunlop ZIIs, BFG Rivals, and Hankook RS3s are the performance tires on the market. They are the ONLY tires that are being used for National Autocross events, and any car you walk around for track days has one of these tires on them. They are a low treadwear, grippy tire. They do not last long, but that is the price you pay for grip. My RS3s are around ~2,000 miles and I'm going to need to flip them soon for even wear (13 autocrosses and 1 track day). I feel like the opinions on PSS tires are very 1-sided because people haven't experienced any of the tires mentioned above. I thought Toyo T1Rs were really good until I ran Hankooks on my car YMMV |

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna end up pulling the trigger on some Hankook V12s since I don't think they make the pilot super sports in 17".

RE-11s are AMAZING tires. I've driven on them before and they were great. As far as a summer tire is concerned, that may be overkill for the street though. Michelin Pilot Super Sports are more suited for everyday driving I'd say.

Why would the RE-11s be overkill for the street? Too sticky, or are more suited for the track? I like the Michelin PSS also.

I think in most cases people won't fully utilize the tire's capabilities. They're amazing tires but they're a pretty hardcore performance tire. If you don't plan on going to the track ever, there are other options that will still perform great on the street. IE: Michelin PSS.

I just got rid of my RFTs and got the Continental Extreme Contact DWS put in and I wanted to know what the recommended psi would be? This is my daily driver and I don't track the car. I do have an occasional moment of spirited driving for smiles but I don't grind the car crazy hard. Thanks for any info.
