Then again, isn't it a hassle for a dealer to sell a car to an out-of-state buyer? Maybe he knows it will sell locally and doesn't want to be bothered getting a PPI and dealing with the extra inconvenience. Still, this one sounds a little iffy.

Yeah, I don't really know what to think. Are there any possible situations where the car isn't a mess and was just passed on for another reason? Not sure if I should even bother going to look at it now. I don't know anyone in the area to check it out that would be able to do a good inspection.

Any links? What site are you using to search? I have alerts on cars.com, autotrader, autolist, and a few others and have been using AutoTempest to check a few times per day.

What about this one?

Looks like a 1 owner car, mileage might be a little higher, but I dont think the dealer would have taken it if it was a basket case:

Its local to me.

Ok, yeah that makes sense that they are all autos. I've been filtering for manuals only so I don't have to sift through everything.

I saw the one at Bridgewater Nissan, and I'm ok with the non-sport, but I really feel like it's worth getting a car with xenons. Based on the retrofitting process, it not worth it to go that route.

Anyone know why the original dealership won't communicate about what they found? That's driving me crazy.

yeah i'd say it's going to be pretty tough to find all the options wanted/manual sub 100k miles. it's doable, but unless you find an enthusiast one it's most likely going to be a bust.. numbers are getting smaller by the day, i know a couple 128s that get completely beat on just because they weren't able to get a 135 so they just said f it. but like i said, it's doable.

Also just seen the last one i linked has 25 service records, that's the most i've seen out of any bmw that i've looked at on various sites/marketplaces

Just talked to a guys at a BMW dealer down the road from the JC Auto Market. He said cars of that age fail safety inspections for all kinds of reasons. Tires, brakes, recalls that haven't been performed, etc. and they just don't want to put money into them to get them to pass.

I've told the dealer that the car didn't pass a safety inspection at Toyota and I would really like to have an independent inspection done on the car. We will see what he says. Also finally got pictures of the car, that seem to match this Facebook ad: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...0019365997865/

Good detective work!

You might still end up being able to get an inspection done, keep trying!

Also consider how far of a drive it is, could you get there in a day or less? Might be worth it.

No doubt, when I was looking for my 135i long ago I made it a point to look at pictures of every car no matter what. Manuals were listed as autos often as well.

You guys are all totally right and great people haha. I really feel at home on this forum. Went ahead and put down a deposit once I received a signed form to confirm a full refund in the event I pass on the car. The car is about 6 hours from me, so I'll likely drive there on Sunday, stay overnight, and be there before they open on Monday. Gonna try to find a mobile BMW inspector, but I'll also bring a scan tool and at least get the car on a lift to inspect myself.
I'll see if I can send a link for the pictures I have received. No engine bay shots, but I should get those tomorrow morning. There are some small issues I can see, but nothing major. Headliner is the worst of everything. Tow covers on front and rear bumpers are missing. A scuff/missing paint on the front bumper, ripped rear seat at the top, probably heat damaged, wear on the steering wheel and shift knob, etc. Also spotted what appears to be a two sided AFE Power intake through the grills, and a Flowmaster exhaust. Could have been an enthusiast, could have been a spoiled kid. No real way to tell.

This is what I'm going with. The first two owners seemed to service the car properly, but the last owner had it serviced at Pep Boys and Meineke. Surprisingly the tires are name brand Contis. That's one way to spot a cheap owner. I guess you don't have much choice. You'll pay more to have a true enthusiast-owned vehicle, but at least you know it was well maintained. Trouble is, no enthusiasts are selling theirs.

Yeah, you are totally right about that. I haven't found any enthusiasts selling these cars haha. The BMW dealership in the same area, Winter Park, had another car, but it sold to one of their techs before it was even listed. Somehow it showed up on CarGurus, which is where I saw it and how I learned about some common inspection failures for these "older" cars. Sad that they are considered old already, but they are still the newest car I have interest in haha.
