New '13 128i Owner

Glad to have join the 1addicts Crew. Over the past week, I was looking for 1 or 3 series manual. My research led me to this 2013 128i convertible with only 1,140 miles! A long time BMW enthusiast, I have owned a few e30s, an e34 and currently have an e39 Touring. Looking putting some miles on my car! Much to learn from the veterans around here!

Congrats!

That's really low mileage on the car.

Sweet! Mine is a '13 Deep Sea Blue 128 coupe.

Best thing I did to mine was put on the BMW Performance Suspension and ditch the run-flats.

Thank you for the great "Welcome"!

It was a random purchase and surprise! I came close to buying a 328i coupe, but it was automatic. There is a great 128i Coupe in Maryland with sport package with approximately 29k miles that I almost made the trip to go grab. This car is barely broken in and really amazed me.

I found an ad for "sport package" suspension components in the classifieds (somewhere in all my reading) and it has me tempted. The run flat are not bothering me... yet. Maybe i need to meet another member who has made a switch and I see the difference in another car?!

Question: I assume suspension options are specific to coupe versus convertible? I found this ad;

Quote:
Selling complete original suspension from BMW 135i M-Sport in excellent condition. These were removed at approx 23k miles before upgrading to coil-overs. Handled great but I wanted to lower the car.

Compatible with 128i/135i. However, from what I read they are are also compatible with non-M and non-x drive E90 3 series. The suspension is the same except for minor difference in spring rates.

For example - You can go online to a site like Tirerack and check Bilstein and KYB shocks/struts for both 1 and 3 series and you will find that the part numbers are the SAME!

1100 miles? Why did the previous owner even buy the thing. Lucky for you though! New car for half the price!

From what I understand, it was an older couple. They traded the 1 and a Ford Explorer Sport (both paid off!) for a Cadillac. The poor thing does not get a garage spot at my house, but it was clear that this car was kept inside. It is immaculate.. the top, the door jams, trunk lips (usual spots to me where a car kept outside accumulates dirt). It was above my budget, but I had to make it work since it was buying a new BMW with a big discount!

After digging around the suspension forum here you'll find that the BMW Sport Suspension and BMW Performance Suspension are actually different. Most have purchased the PS as a kit from BMW. It is a bit more sport oriented and a little more firm than the regular Sport Suspension (also called M Sport - same thing).

Yeah, I thought my 8500 mile '13 was a good find a few months ago. Nice!
