Should broken boot lid break light be covered under extended warranty?

Should a broken boot lid break light be covered under extended warranty? The light has a crack in the middle of it and the last 1cm on the left hand side of it has broken off

My local dealer is telling me that it isn't and tells me that the part is ~$220

It is quite a common problem. You should get BMW to "good will" yours. Or maybe just do the repair yourself. Its not that hard. You do have to grind down the inside edges of the trunk lid where the third brake light mounts inside of.

Here are a few threads on this problem...

I think it should be coverd under warranty, as long as there is no obvious out side impact which has caused the crack.

As for the term ''warranty" it is garranteed against a defect in materials or workmanship by the manufacture

Was the extended warranty provided by BMW? As far as I know you get covered for the same thing as if the car was under warranty.

This is a known problem and it should be covered - even loose stitching is covered.

when i purchased the car (second hand) from a BMW dealer, I paid extra to get BMW extended warranty and free servicing.

Thanks for the feedback guys - hopefully they do it under warranty!!!!

Speak nicely to them and I think they should do it for you whether through extended warrenty or most likely good will. Like others have said, its a known issue. As for BMW extended warrenty, it's not "new car" warrenty and as such trim and the like are not covered. There is a big difference between the two so look carefully into it before making a commitment to it.
