AutoBild speculates on six future 1-series variants
Hi Guys,
In this week’s issue of AutoBild they have an interesting articleon the new 1-er’s coming our way. I posted the pictures bellow my post. The biggest news - I think is a new SportsVan based on the ONE. The magazine says it might be FWD or even AWD. Some highlights: 2011 - three door, RWD 2011 – five door, RWD 2012 – coupe, RWD 2012 – Cabriolet, RWD 2013 – Sports Van, FWD or AWD 2013 – GT, FWD or AWD 1-er engines: all direct injection! Gasoline engines 116i – 1.6L Turbo, 136 PS 118I –1.6L Turbo, 156 PS 120i – 2.0L, 177 PS (NA) 125i – 2.0 Turbo, 218 PS Diesel engines 116d – 2.0 Turbo, 122 PS 118d – 2.0 Turbo, 150 PS 123d – 2.0 Bi-Turbo 204 PS One interesting point they say is that the top performance models (ie: 135i) will always remain RWD! MINI’s The magazine also states that the new Mini will have some three cylinder engines coming out. 1.2L to 1.5L engines (100 PS to 184 PS). The top Mini engine will be a John Cooper Works 2.0L turbo 220 PS to 250 PS versions. Here is an interesting arguement! RWD vs FWD = guess which one wins? RWD! |

Althought many wont share my taste, i would love to see the 2012 coupe look like the one in the picture. I think it would be one hell of an evil looking 1er.

I like the 2011 hatchback, be nice if they brought those to the states. Why would they test a non-sport packaged 135i against a Focus RS? You would think they would have found one with a sport option. Who knows, maybe it whooped its ass--sorry don't sprechen Sie.

That's an interesting article below the 1er stuff where they put common (mis)conceptions to the test: light vs. powerful, old vs. new of the same model (everything was better in the good old days argument), no substitute for displacement, fwd vs. rwd, manual vs. automatic, etc.

But for the rest of the 2nd gen 1-ers... they will probably go with FWD or even an AWD setup(so the article said). Look... when these new 2nd gen 1-er's come out... BMW will be making what four or five Mini lines. All FWD. And I think it makes sense that BMW would want to share some of the costs(engines) - spread over several model line up. I think one must remember too that the sole reason BMW came up with the one series cars was to sell more 4 cylinder cars! So that they could get a tax break on the up coming EU laws for corperate CO2 levels. |

I don't see a sedan in that list. There has been a fair amount of speculation about a sedan version of the F2x 3 series . I think it is a good bet that we'll see one in North America. Certainly a sedan would be the volume seller here in N/A if it existed.
As for the engines, I think that N/A 2L is not likely to last long, if it exists to begin with at all. |
