...when you "upgrade" to a 235 and it makes you reminince about how much fun the 135 used to be.

When you see people walk around your 1er that is debadged and ask what model it is.
And rarely get the following: When you tell them it is a 1-series they immediately follow up with, "wow so that's what a M1 looks like!"

When you get into arguments with 2 series owners on which car is the modern 2002.
When trunk space equals a roof rack. When you shut up F series owners that the 1 has a hydraulic rack and will always have better road feel. |

You know you own a 1-series when you let a friend drive the car, and they immediately say, "wow if I knew about these cars when I was in the market for mine..."

The design ques are actually from the 2002. I know it has the feel of an E30 and being an past owner of a 325is I agree. But overall, the design of the 1 series if from the 2002.

I dont remember an E30 riding so plush. IMO the E82/E88 reminds me of a shrunken E34 5er with its heavy steering (similar to the recir. ball steering of the older 5er) and its amenities. This is the reason why its my daily

You are right about the ride. My 325is is set up as a Spec E30 (except the sways and R compounds). With the M50 swap under the hood it is a little rowdy...but has a very modern feel with that motor and transmission. The 1 does feel like an old 5. Weighs about the same too! Probably has a lot to do with it. The E30 is probably close to 2500 as mine sits and my 135 is likely 3400. e34 is around 3600 depending on spec. 900-1000 pounds is HUGE. I am sure that is a big part of the plushness. So the E30 all grown up I think...you know when you get older you always pack on some extra pounds...

Compared to what? They are pretty bad in the snow. So bad I decided to park the 1er and get a FWD car for the winter. My Civic will run circles around the 135 in the snow.

That's what I've been told, twice, while I was looking to buy mine. I switched from a Mazda3 to my 135i and was surprised the BMW was better! Exept when turning off traction control and pushing it, for sure. I think tires on the mazda where pretty bad so it helped me to fall in "love" with the 1. I had 2 rwd before (Lexus and Infiniti) and BMW is far better. |

Ignorant question from a Floridian-
Snow driveability is a blend of traction control logic and having the right tires (blizzacks or something)?

You actually want to turn off traction control in deep snow. Need to be able to spin the tires. |

Wasn't comparing. When I lived in Ottawa, we had a Mazdaspeed3 that we drove and put proper winters on it. Even drove my old 87 E30 in Ottawa for one winter before we got into the MS3. The 135i we currently own here in Toronto does well in the snow. I've never gotten stuck nor had any issues with heavy snow fall. As long as you have proper winter tires and take your time for the condition, anything will drive in the snow. But I mean, if your not comfortable driving your 1er in snow, then please don't. I learned how to parallel park in a blizzard. So I'm very comfortable driving in winter conditions.

I should think it's not so much yourself to be worried about because everybody here is, of course, a perfect pilot in any conditions...
It's the other idiots that scare the crap outta me, and that's gotta go double with sonw & ice on the ground

But put the 1er up against a FWD Civic with LSD, and the Civic will leave the 1er in the dust. |

MY friend & I both bought cars at the same time (his being g37) we both flip flopped and drove each others car. His jaw dropped in mine he said I wish you told me about these cars I would have got this!
But you know you drive a (fbo) 1er when some random car tries to race and you can walk 90% of them |

You know you're a weird-ass 135i driver when you couldn't care less about aftermarket bolt-ons and dyno sheets.
