135 rear diff same as 335?

Does anyone kno if the 335 and 135 share the same rear diff? if so shouldnt the Quaife LSD for the 335 work?

Outside of the final drive ratio, they are a little different. 1-Series uses fancy helical bearings and less lube capacity because of the lower friction/heat due to the bearings.

Btw, a Quaife will likely not work on our cars, if it's a welded ring gear diff, which there are reports of ours being welded. You'd likely then have to buy an entire new diff, including the housing.

Unless they weld it after they put it into the housing, I do not see why it will not come out. Someone will make an affordable LSD conversion for our cars but it might take a while. Lets all start bugging Quaiffe.

335i diffs are welded too, and they have to replace the entire housing. I do think they are either welded in place, or the pressed in bearings lock it in there (good luck replacing those).

We're lucky, in sorts, that the 335i folk paved the way for us. They found the answers to questions like these already. (good or not)

SOME of the 335 diffs were welded, not all. Turnermotorsports sells a LSD for the 335, or you can do the whole diff swap with a low milage used rear diff. I wonder if this would swap into the 135?

The ones not wielded are from the early production. With oldest E81 still being newer than newest 3 series, chances are ours are wielded, but I welcome good news that it's not. Someone please look into this.

So if I can find a rearend from an early 335i, I would still have to pay $3700 for a limited slip "chunk". Add in setup and installation and this could get very expensive indeed.

Most if not all automatics 135i's came with a bolted diff.

However, all manual 135i's are welded.
