Favorite radar detector/opinion for buying one
Hola 1Addicts
In the market for a good radar detector and figure you guys know what's up and would love any recommendations you guys are using and like. I was thinking about a Escort 9500ix. Found a good deal on one for 300 |

AFAIK each radar detector is good for a specific purpose. V1 for arrows, Redline/STi-R for range, 9500 series for city/social aspect.
Most people just prefer the V1. I have a Redline because of a friend's recommendation. If I had to do it all over again, it'd probably be the V1 because I could sacrifice a little range to know WHICH direction the signal is coming from. It also depends on where you are. The Redline is completely invisible to RDDs but not very many places use RDDs unless it is illegal to have a detector. I live in Cali and have seen local law enforcement step up the number of lidar devices. Also, don't go in blind. Know what bands are used locally and whether it is advantageous to turn off detection of specific bands. (Or if the detector can even turn off detection of specific bands. It might not sound important but when your radar detector is chirping at every intersection, it will get damn annoying.) |

The newer redline comes with "Escort Live" which is what I think you might be referring to but that's 1 year subscription based.

I can't really recommend one over the other. The Redline, V1, and 9500 have great advantages. On my Redline, I have it programmed so I don't have to deal with "false alerts" as those are mostly X band alerts. I am not sure how useful the Escort Live is because I have an older model that didn't come with it.

I use V1 and love it, I believe there are new accessories that allow you to mark spots via GPS for the detector to ignore
Overall I find that CHP here use Ka band and Laser, haven't encountered anything else

Nice! I've been leaning towards the 9500ix so it's great to hear you enjoy it! I just had a question regarding mounting it. I hate when all the wires look messy is there a way to mount it to your rear-view mirror?

Escort Redline with BS/RDR is likely the best option currently. (similar thread on the topic: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...radar+detector)
I currently have my detector mounted above the rearview mirror on the drivers side just under the factory tint. There are mounts that hook up to the rearview mirror. Check out Blendmount and other companies (one is mentioned here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...r+mirror+mount) |

I bought the 9500ix and couldn't be happier. Just realized our 1 series power outlet is in literally the most inconvenient spot ever and the chord stretches all the way across the dash
