Congrats and welcome! As I'm sure you're aware finding a manual 128 is hard enough, let alone a slick top! Flip through some build threads if you need any ideas here's mine. I should be making just shy of 300 crank. https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1320030

There's some good info.
The badge debate Or you could just do the badge removal and leave people guessing.

Thanks guys, thanks for all the info. Ya I did a badge delete on my old 94 e36 325i, but didn't love it. Neither really when I tried it on the M3. I prolly just leave the 128i there.
More on the 128i, it was a 1 owner car, from CO then vegas then into Los Angeles where I live, so I had to jump on it n9t just fir the slicktop manual, but because I really didn't want sulev and it's cool to have heated seats.

My neighbor puts AMG badges on his MB, and F badges on his Lexus. When I got the 128i he suggested I get a 135 badge. Why? Should I give a feck what you think I have? If I have a 135 badge on my 128 do I get more testosterone? If I wanted a 135 I would have bought one.
Plus if I have a 135 badge on my 128, when I get passed at the track, at beer 30 I will have to explain it isn't me, it's the car's fault.

I did the badge delete on my 135i. The shape and small size of the E82’s trunk lends itself nicely to a delete, especially with the BMW roundel being so relatively large back there.

Why not ESS supercharge it and skip half the mods? Come on, you know you want to do it and report back on reliability! I say this without any hidden personal agenda whatsoever; my motives are completely for your betterment :

The entire reason I got this car was for the non sulev, naturally aspirated straight 6 in manual, my 3rd BMW like this now.
If I were open to FI, there would have been many cars in contention, but alas, what I want is not what consumers want anymore. Edit: I should also say that it's not about power. Modding cars is my hobby, I love wrenching and I love changing the way the car behaves/sounds to suit me. I come from a background of ringing out 80cc, 125cc, 250cc dirtbikes. I like to keep an engine "on the pipe" rather than lug around at 3k rpm because I have 400tq. Last edited by TboneS54; 12-27-2019 at 07:06 PM.. |

Congrats on your find! Slicktop 128i manuals are rare critters, indeed. I was ecstatic to find one without too much drama. Just lucky, I guess. The only thing mine lacked was heated seats, sport package, and xenons. I scored some powered sport seats from a member here who wasn't too far away, replaced the beat-up driver side bottom cushion and installed them, which wasn't particularly easy, since my original seats were manual. Upgrading to sport seats is well worth the effort. However, if the previous owner was not overweight, and the cushions are in good shape, then the non-sport seats are at least comfortable, if not supportive.
Keep us posted on your progress. We'd love to have your opinion on the mods you do! One final thought is that you might be able to use your M3 seats in the 128i, then put some nice buckets in that M3. I don't know if they'd fit, but it might be worth a shot. I just picked up a 2012 128i manual sport package with an n51 (unfortunately). 93k miles paid $8800 and its in amazing condition. Pretty excited!

Nice find, 84gearhead03! N51 isn't necessarily terrible. You already have the DISA manifold on it. A tune should net you solid gains, and your emission warranty should be much longer than it would be on an N52. The price you paid seems fair, too. There are few 128i manual sport package cars out there, and many people who own them aren't going to part with them anytime soon. Last of the BMW NA straight sixes. Heavy sigh.

Thanks. I look forward to driving the heck out of it. I was really surprised how well it pulled, really fun car. My 1st experience driving a BMW was a 2006 330xi and wanted one ever since. Since this one was kind of a unicorn or sorts, I figured it was meant to be. Only 15 minutes away from me too.
