The CSL style wheels are popular in the BMW community because of the CSL M3. Thats it. They are fairly easy to replicate and have good structural integrity by design. How much do you think the materials cost that make up a single wheel. Now add the design time and cost of the mold to then make the wheels (both gravity and spin molded) as well as the cost to use the molding machine, assuming the wheel MFG didnt purchase one already. How many wheels does one expect to have to sell to then break even only on the initial costs. 100? 1000? Average that out and youre still coming in higher than the <$250 per wheel that you seem to be targeting. This isnt even taking into consideration true fully forged wheels that need at least a 20"^3 block of aluminum (probably along the lines of $300/block, a 4"x12"x8" block of high grade aluminum alloy from McMaster Carr is >$250). What it really comes down to is the old addage (or my current adaptation). Strong. Light. Cheap. Pick 2.

I have been on this forum since '08. And the style of rim I have wanted for a while WAS a 5 spoke style....but guess what....for the 1er they don't really exist(not for the prices you are looking for, and if they do exist they are usually butt fugly). So I ended up biting the bullet and paying more than most for what I wanted.
If you need to know what has been done you can certainly look in this thread: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216413 and then PM whoever's wheels you are interested in. I personally like the ones I ended up buying (Vorsteiner V302's...but waaaay expensive) or these: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=502489 |

Not sure exactly what your looking for but Tirerack does have a bunch of 19s available for less than $1K.

i'm trying to find 19's in an off set that will fit the 1er that dont look like all the other rims out there. not seeing any variation in style of the rims that are around 250 (300 max) a rim in the offset i need.

i posted a picture earlier of one. i like the 5 spoke. or even the double 5 spoke like my stock ones. also liking the deep dish look. this is the one i posted before.
they have it in 38 for the front and 45 for the rear. starting to think that set up might work with a 245 tire on the rear. well at least hoping it will.

Just understand that the kind of deep-dish look above means serious convexity in the wheel to account for our high offsets. For some people, that's a turnoff.

What do you mean by convexity?

Meaning the face of the wheel will push out toward the middle and the "arms" will bend inward- possibly more than the picture above, which tends to give the wheels sort of a "starfish" kind of look.
This is the opposite of concave wheels, where the spokes bend away from the hub (toward the outside of the car), which is currently a pretty popular style. since our offsets are so high, the hub juts out from the car pretty far. in order to get a lip for wheels with offsets like these, the manufacturer has to make the spokes dive inward toward the car body. concave (big picture so i wont embed, just click): http://www.300cforums.com/forums/att...concave360.jpg convex: http://www.ridelust.com/wp-content/u...ceWheels_5.jpg Last edited by cheshirecat79; 02-12-2013 at 12:54 PM.. |

Ordered them. Ended up sticking with 18x8 in the front with 35 offset and 18x9.5 in the rear with 45 offset. The car is getting lowered about an inch. I saw a pic of 19's and they look way to big. I think the 18's will look nice. How many other people have 18x8 with 35 offset and no rub? Just trying to get a little piece of mind. Not opposed to a fender roll if needed. Just don't want to have to do alot of work to it. I'll post pics when they get here.

i went with 215 35 18 on the front and 255 35 18 on the rear. right now i have the stock rims with 245 45 18 blizzaks all around. looking at those tires there is still quite a bit of room in the front and rear atleast an inch height wise and maybe an inch laterally. and since i'm going to have the same size rim on the front with a smaller tire i'm hoping it wont be rubbing. never know. figure its been a while since i took a risk. so here we go.

Tested fitment for the wheels and tires tonight. Reached up in my wheel well, seems my car came with the fenders rolled from the factory. Keep hearing talk about having to roll fenders when both front and rear wheel wells are already rolled and I've never had it done. I am the only owner of this car. 18x8 +35 and 18x9.5 +45 fits stock suspension perfectly. I have some pics to post. Car is still in winter mode so it's ridiculously dirty. Just put them on to test fit, make sure nothing was hitting or rubbing since no one I've seen on here has these style wheels. Looks awesome. Can't wait for the roads to get cleaned up so I can drop it an inch and leave these on it. Will post the pics soon.

well here is a few pics. this is my daily driver right now and its in winter mode with 245 blizzaks the whole way around.
in PA they keep the roads really dirty. please excuse the mess on my car. iphone pics. here is the rear one. here is the front. the wheel is turned a little but you can tell it shouldn't stick out very far. from the side.the wifes car was in the way. there will be lots more when it gets nice out and i put them on for good. going along with why i started this post. this whole setup, wheels, tires, tpms, mounted balanced and delivered to my door was 1800. the wheels are $224 a peice. i think 19's were $256 a piece.
