Alternate tire type or size choices
Hi guys,
I spent some time going through the forums on here before choosing the best option to replace my stock Bridgestone run flats. I have the usual stock 135i wheels 215/40/R18 fronts and 245/35/R18 rears. After reading on here I decided I would get Michelin Super Sports in the popular sizing of 225/40 and 255/35 to keep the tyre dimater differential similar to keep the mileage and speedo correct. But... I can't seem to track down any 255/35/R18 rears in Brisbane, only 255/40. I can't find fronts the same as stock either. So I am left with either trying to source the tyres from elsewhere (ie order from the US) or somewhere else in Aus if someone knows. Choose different tyre combination out of: 225/40, 225/45, 245/35, 245/40, 245/45, 255/40, 255/45, 265/40, 265/45, 275/40 without a matching tyre differential. Alternatively is choosing another tyre option. I am just after a nice road tyre with good handling, ride and longevity. Also I need to track down a tyre saver spare, do you recommend any options? Thanks in advance. Simon |

If choosing proper tyres instead of RFT, you can consider Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2 in 225/40/18 front, 245/35/18 Rear. The Goodyears tend to have a more square sidewall and have wider tread than the Michelin. 245/35/18 will be good on the stock 18x8.5 rear rim.

I went with 225/255's tires on my stock alloys. Works great! thumbsup:

Hi Dackel, The post above mine, to which I referred, recommended the Goodyear tires in 245's in the rear tires: "Originally Posted by John_01 View Post If choosing proper tyres instead of RFT, you can consider Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2 in 225/40/18 front, 245/35/18 Rear. If I go with these tires, which appear not to have the shape of the Michelin's, I'm unclear on which rear size to order, assuming both to be available (of which I am not sure). thanks for any comments. |

IF you want to stay safe... go with a 225/245 tire option. But my 225/255's work really well. Dackel

Look at the tire diameter to match different tire sizes. Less difference the better. In this case 225/40 is a better match. the 225/45 is too tall.

There is not very much space in the front wheel arch of the E82. 225/40/18 will be ok, but 45 profile is going to be really tight. I would not even try it.

New to the forum. Looking to replace older tires on my '11 E88 M Sport. Is there a suggested time limit age wise when replacing should occur? Car spent majority of its life in the Phoenix area. Replacing to 225's up front & 255's in rear. Any opinions on this upsizing? Thanx
