Custom Tune for my Jb4 N55 in South Florida
Who is the most competent in South Florida to do a custom tune on my bolt on jb4 n55.
This is possible to do right? They can use Map 5? Active Autowerke? Please let me know approx what the price should be too (3-400?) |

What do you think you'll get from a custom tune that the auto tune map won't do?

b1aze - Correct me if I am wrong.....Better driveability, durability, smoother, more power, safer power, the list goes on and on....you can't possibly think a canned tune is as good as a custom tune.
luv - I believe the n55 has a map 5 left open (i.e. no tune from BMS) - different from you n54 people. I obv don't know much about this platform, so help is greatly appreciated. |

Map5 on n54 is auto tune, so not really canned. I honestly don't know if a custom tune would buy you anything over the auto-tune. B1aze probably doesn't realize there is no auto tune map for n55.

but thats my point...I dont have the auto tune....and not sure there is plans for one from BMS/Terry.
I still believe a custom tune > autotune > canned tune not solely for performance, but for driveability, MPG, longevity, smoothness, etc. You always make more safe power with a dialed in tune. |

^ ya, but I don't know if that is exactly true with a piggy back. It is always going to be reacting to whatever the dme is doing.
Either way, I am many, many miles from you and have no idea who to go to in florida. |

I feel you on the hot & hum. I have a n54 w/ AR's (no cats), JB4, BMS DCI's, ETS Chargpipe, etc. Basically all your mods + meth. Been doing so for over 25k miles.
1) Better Driveability: What do you want to improve? Is it handling, traction? 2) Durability: I've gone to the dealer (1x), after my AR's (wastegate had the chirps). 3) Smoother: What's rough? 4) More power: Have you tried E85? Go Meth. How about both? 5) Safer Power: I've never had dangerous power. Log, Log, Log. What is it that you want to do exactly? What's you're main concern? Seems like you have a big wish list. I think custom tuning will help you out more towards FBO, but anyways MAP-6 is for custom tuning. Hope you know what you're doing. Last edited by TUN3D; 06-05-2013 at 11:56 AM.. |

hey man, sounds like your familiar with these cars....care to meet sometime in the near future?
1) I have driven many tuned cars always tuned by some of the best in the business - they drove perfect, and while its running good, its not dialed in to my liking. Rpm fluctuations at idle, intermittent "odd" almost miss-type feelings when barely accelerating from lower rpms, I could make a pretty length list of small desires. I do NOT think there is any issue with the jb4, I just demand more perfection. I know its a piggyback and perfection is far from achievable. 2. I hear ya - I hope I am as lucky. My wastegate seems to chatter if I leave the car idling... 3. High rpm Gear shifts - big time bog sometimes. intermittent "odd" almost miss-type feelings when barely accelerating from lower rpms 4. e85 is tough to get around here - I dont want to have to search for gas. Its not that important. Plus I dont like the long term affects of too much e85, personally. Meth is an interesting thought, but would really put me in a bad place if me and BMW have a warranty tiff. 5. I need to log for sure. |
