My Quad Exhaust Project

So, this was more of a hassle than I thought...but I'm here to help save you guys the trouble if you decide to go quad.

I attempted to move the charcoal canister to make room for a true dual exhaust. The charcoal canister is right in the path of where the passenger side exhaust pipes would go and I contacted several different mechanics and asked if they could move the canister either in front of the battery tray (behind the diffuser) or in back of the battery tray. All mechanics said it was too risky and would take a lot of work. I did find one mechanic that was able to move the canister an 1"1/2 back to make room for piping.

So, after brainstorming and talking with my exhaust guy, I still wanted to run true dual exhaust but customize how we ran the pipe. I wanted to do something similar to the Remus exhaust setup but straight pipe style. So I ran two 2.5" dual pipes off of an "X" pipe and ran the passenger side pipe directly in back of the diffuser and modified my passenger side exhaust tip. We actually ran the pipe into the side of the exhaust tip and that took some fabricating on behalf of my exhaust guy. He chopped the back of the exhaust tip off, welded a flat plate on the back to keep clear from the charcoal canister and welded the 2.5" pipe into the side of the exhaust tip.

In conclusion, this project took some time but I'm happy with the result. Also, the sound is just right. I think 3" dual piping would have been way too obnoxious and a definite loss in back pressure and low end power. I definitely notice some gains in power, the car feels lighter, and overall performance seems a lot smoother versus the stock setup.

Rear Diffuser was purchased at http://www.rwcarbon.com/ Check em out! Nice dudes

I never comment on quad exhaust, because I hate them. This is the first one i've seen that actually looks pretty nice.. Nice work!

The nice thing about yours is that you built them to fit your CF diffuser. I retrofitted a 1M exhaust (with all the 1M cannister, battery box bits) so right now I'm rocking a modified stock diffuser, which was harder to cut neatly than I had hoped.

Looks great.

I'd love to see a picture of the passenger side connections. It's cut off in the 2nd picture.

Also, sound clips!

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that too, but didn't think the cut would turn out as neatly as the original cutout. Was converting to a 1M battery setup difficult? And how much?

I think he just moved the canister and did not need to do the battery tray.

Did they re-use the same stock evap canister lines, or did they extend/replace them with longer lines? Do you know?

We were going to extend the canister lines but my mechanic didn't feel comfortable completing that job. I went to another mechanic and said he could extend the lines, but mentioned going to Home Depot for parts and I passed on that, lol. So, we kept the factory lines in tact and just made sure when we pushed back the canister none of the lines were bent/pinched against the frame of the car.
