Does a sunroof take up roof height?
Hi guys,
Newly registered member but reader for a long time. In my search for a 2012/2013 135i coupe I have a question regarding sunroofs. When comparing between a 135i coupe with no sunroof and the same coupe with a sunroof: Is it correct that the roof-height measured from the drivers seat to the roof is lower in the car with a sunroof? Ie. the sunroof construction takes up space to make room for mechanics, electronics and the glass itself? Or is the height the same as the car with no sunroof? The short background for my odd question: I've been looking for a used 135i for a while now but I have never sat in a 135i coupe with a sunroof. The car is extremely rare here in Denmark so going for a look-see is just not an option. I have to import a car from germany, so it's a bit troublesome to check out the cars. I barely fit in the car with no sunroof. |

Yep. The sunroof takes up some headroom. Probably less than 2 inches. A sunroof is standard on all US 135i's. It wasn't until the M235i came out that it was a no cost delete option. A sunroof was optional on 128i's.
IF you are after more headroom on a 135i... get a car with manual seats - you will sit an inch or two lower than a car with power seats.

Like I said on 128i's a s/r was an option. But on a US 135i it was standard. As far as I know of.

Thanks for the answers!
I didn't know there was an adjustment difference between manual and electric seats - now I'm afraid to go for electric seats Ehm - what is this?! Is it like an ultra thin roof? |

Straight replacement for your metal roof with a lightweight carbon fiber roof instead.

The roof itself actually isn't that expensive. But including all the assembly work I think it'd be quite an expense. At least in a danish garage. But very nice roof! |

User Sk8fe had this done to his 135i. It was fairly involved if I recall.
