Probably not as good as the Logic7 but is it worth getting it? I'm new to this forum & I am looking to get a lightly optioned 135 since this will be the third Bimmer of the family. It was a choice between a nicely optioned 128 or a "diet" 135. I decided to go on a diet instead cause I heard a lot of good things about the twin turbo engine.
Going back to the original question: is the Hifi radio option worth it? I know its not a lot of money but I'd rather use it towards other options. I'd love to hear from those with & from those without the Hifi option. Thank you in advance! |

Welcome sixsticks - if you search the Audio forum you'll find quite a bit of info on the HiFi systems for the 1ers. Also there are a coupl eof good stickies at the top of the forum worth pursuing.

I don't understand. The optional audio system is the Logic7. HiFi is standard.
Personally, I took the optioned-out 128i route. The performance of the N52 is enough for me, and I liked being able to get more comfort options for the money. The only big options I don't have are the Nav/iDrive and the automatic. |

It's mandatory, IMO.
It is logic 7. Sounds almost EXACTLY the same as the Logic 7 system in my father's 5 series. I think the acoustics of the interior of the 5 are a bit better, so the sound stage is more natural. Same qualilty, clarity, etc.

Are we talking about option (677) on a 135i? The sticky on this reads simulated Logic-7. I ordered the Premium Hi-Fi option and I'm confused. I'm sure it will sound great.
I got the HK hi-fi in my 325 and from what I have been reading, this system is much better than that. |

This is a very subjective topic ... how audio focussed are you? I love driving with good music, and was happy to pay for the upgrade to Premium Sound + Logic 7. That will give you Logic 7, but almost as importantly, additional Amp output, and higher grade speakers.
FYI, while the Logic 7 is "simulated", the only part that is simulated is the 7th Channel, the centre front speaker. The 3ers use 13 speakers, including one centre console speaker, while we get 10. The emulate Front Centre by playing a delayed centre channel equally balanced across the two front speakers. This is apparently supported in the Logic 7 spec. We still get full front, centre, rear stereo channels, with DSP to emulate surround sound from two channel inputs, as well as support for Logic7 encoded sources. If sound is not your primary concern, I think there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest standard Hifi will be more than adequate. I would suggest you get a favorite CD and take it to the dealer before you order. Run it in a standard audio equipped system at the least, and decide if you like it.

the reason it is not called logic 7 is because there is not 7 channels in the 1er. a center channel is simulated in the e82/e88, thus the Premium Hi-Fi label...
we have the same amp and same everything else as the E90s Logic 7... we are just missing a pretty important speaker. With that said, I still got it, because ripping doors open to install new speakers was not something I felt like entertaining. Plus, there is not much better I could do with $800. Good luck!

I have the Premium Hi-Fi and haven't played with the surround settings too much but I think I agree that it sounds better when off. I do appreciate the DSP and better quality speakers. It sounds good enough for me but noisy helicopters have a nasty effect on a person's hearing.

I think it would be a good idea to add it. Afterwards you might regret it if you don't get the premium hifi.
I myself am also getting a mostly low optioned 135i, but I think the hifi option will be on my short option list. Not only does it sound better, but it will get louder with more watts. Go for it. |

In Canada, the HiFi option with 10 speakers comes standard in both the 135 and 128. We have an upgrade from HiFi 10 Speakers to a Logic-7 13 Speaker system.

FWIW,
In Australia we have 3 options in the 1 series for the stereo (at least in the hatchback version) - standard, HiFi & HiFi professional. The difference between the first two is enormous. The difference between the second two is not. Both the HiFi and HiFi Professional have upgraded speakers (10 of them, including two under front seat subwoofers) but they differ in the amplifier. The 'Professional' amplifier uses optical connections from the headunit, has a graphic equaliser and the 'surround' settings. In terms of how loud and clear they are, there is little difference between the two. This *is* a car not a soundstage... I know this because we have two 120d (one with HiFi & the other with HiFi Professional). Paul |

You guys are awesome!
I agree, the Premium Hifi is the way to go plus our other cars have the Logic7 system & I would hate to be driving the 1 series & be saying to myself "could have, would have, should have". Now I just have to convince the wife which 1 series to buy! Six................. |
