big decision to make (modding)
So I'm going to have about $1500 to mod my car when I get it.
I dont want to do anything performance related, becasue coming from grandmas 99 dodge stratus, the 135 is gonna feel fast as shit already haha OPTIONS 1a. wheels & powdercoat- 19" VMR V710's powdercoated matte black (they'll have to chill for a few till i can buy tires) 1b. wheels & tires- same set up minus the powdercoat and add tires (then i save for powdercoat. Im leaning toward the powercoat option, becasue, in my opinion, they look kinda ghetto in silver) 2. 15% tint, Performance Spoiler, Thunders, Ambergones, Smoked corners, Alarm, and some other cosmetic mods I'm leaning toward the first option, because if I went with the last one, it would be a WHILE before i could get the rims and tires. It'll be alot easier to save a few hundred at a time and check everything else off one by one. Any opinions much appreciated!! |

It is usually a very good rule of thumb to not mod on day 1. Particularly a car this incredible to drive, you don't REALLY have to mod out of the box. I think if you have your heart set on some cosmetic upgrades, it is not a bad idea to do them on day 1, because you will have longer to enjoy them, and you're driving a car that doesn't really "need" to be modded.
Having just had my last car Stolen and Totalled - I would say put in an alarm quickly. What made you not opt for the BMW one? |

On your list the #1 thing should be the alarm. If you can't do that with something else, then option 1a sounds like a winner because, like you said, you can check off everything else. That way, you could get a new mod every so often. Best of luck!

If you must do changes on day one do cosmetic changes. I would wait 3-4 weeks to see what bugs you the most then change it. For me, I will do tint, short shifter and sprint booster first. These are the thing that bug me the most. Tires and suspension next. 1b . Is what I like from your list. Show (wheels) and go (tires). The RFTs are for crap.

in my opinion i wouldnt get rims if you cant afford the tires, let alone the powder coat, i would personally put the rest on visa and have the finished product to use and enjoy the minute you buy the rims.
as for the alarm, the car comes with an immobilizer, i always thought if someone wants your car bad enough, they will steal it with/without an alarm i would go for the items you have money for now, the spoiler, the lights etc. enjoy it from day 1 and save up for the rest |

I disagree- The first things that should go is the CDV and the RFTs.
Edit: On second thought, I guess it depends on the area you live in. I don't see myself needing an alarm, so it went lower on my "to do" list. If I lived in a more questionable area of town, then I would agree with you. The CDV and RFTs are still, in my mind, enemies #1 and #2.

Cosmetic changes notwithstanding, it's always best to do performance mods one at a time.
That way you can feel what change the mod has made, adjust if necessary, before putting the next piece of the puzzle on. The danger doing a bunch of things all at once is you don't get a fair idea of what is doing what exactly. |

Questionable area of town - how about the car theft capital of the country.
NJ sucks, parked my S4 in my GF's driveway (she lives in a very nice town). Woke up, it was gone. Gone baby gone. And now i'm about to order a 1 series. |

What is wrong with the 264's ?
Why don't you wait untill you need new tires ? Do you have money that is burning a hole in your pocket ? I know.....modding is an addiction. You can't help it. |

Is there a fitment on those wheels for the 135? From what I can find there isn't one yet. Also it looks as though they will be available in matte black so why not wait for those? Especially considering you don't have money for the tires.
Keep in mind more wheels are coming along. I believe **********s.com will have CSLs for the 135 in the near future. So sit some of the money aside, keep saving, and see what happens. |

thanks everyone for your input to clear everything up i dont want to put anything on my card becasue i hate credit cards, its just an easy way to get into debt. (that and buying a bimmer lol) As for fitment on the V710's the rears will fit but im going to have to roll the front fenders (ET 35 on the front) As for not modding right away; Ive been on this site for long enough to know that, while AW is sexy as hell, when bone stock it just seem kinda bland to me. I really want to give it some flair right off the bat ill have to email VMR about the matte black finish and see whats up with those, maybe ill just tack another 500 onto my loan and get the wheels, powercoat and tires in one shot haha |

You could lower it and powdercoat your stock wheels?
The VMR V710's are HAWT tho.

I've seen something at United BMW's web site about an issue with that. Go to the commercial forum here and look for Dan@United and send him a message, he might know what's up with it and he can be trusted.
