NEWS! there IS a 2014 E82 Coupe coming to the US!
but it is now going to be called the 2-series!
I ordered my 2013 135is today (woo hoo!) and was told they just received the 2014 order guide today and the E82 Coupe is still there, but now called the 2-series? I had to ask him like 3 times before he clarified that it is the exact same body style apparently. It seems we won't get the restyled 2-series until the year after (2015?) as far as i know, there is NO "is" model coming next year.....and no M235 either for 2014. After 2014 there may be an M235. so the 2014 E82 will look exactly like the prior E82s, but with a different naming/nomenclature. perhaps this a warm up before the real new 2-series launches here in 2015? Seems like a very weird strategy for sure. apologies if some of you already knew this, but this was definitely news to me! Last edited by IEDEI; 07-22-2013 at 09:20 PM.. |

I think we need some clarification here. 2013 was to be the last year of the E82.

I'm not buying that. These dealers half the time don't know what they're talking about and everything has stated that production is ending on the 1-series coupe with production of the new 2-series starting in November, which is the newly designed M235i, not an e82 with a new #.
Will believe it when I see it. |

that is exactly what i was told by the sales manager here. I asked him several times to clarify and he said "exact same as the car you're ordering right now".....and he said the "new bodystyle" has been pushed back 1 year for the US market to the 2015 model year.
BUT he kept saying that they are changing the name to "2-series". maybe someone else can confirm with another dealer? |

wouldn't make sense to change the e82 to a 2 series for just 1 year..
I think your dealership is confused

I don't believe that information is correct.

Smells like classic dealership misinformation.
If it's true, though, holy moly! It would irk me a bit since I bought my car when I bought it because I wanted to have the last year of the 1. Oh well -- I suppose there are more important things to worry about. hehehe

plain retarded.... why get an E82, change the name from 1 to 2 but keep the exact same body? for that lets just throw a 5 on the new 3 series just because its pretty much the same size as the prior 5 to the one out now? screw it... lets swap all the numbers while we're at it

I had a BMW dealer tell me that they could not negotiate a deal on an ordered car. I would have to place the order, have it built and when it arrived, we would then negotiate the deal.
Dealers say the darndest things. |

OP, while I'm sure your dealer told you what they did, this information sounds pretty strange.
IMO, the literature your dealer received was preliminary and was meant to be used as a placeholder until the official reveal. |

it would be nice though if someone else could ask their dealer to see if they say something similar.... |

Sounds fishy. Check with Ian.long, he works at a BMW dealer. He just ordered a 135is and is posting in the Ordering Pricing section in the production cut-off thread.

The "sales" manager told you that in a last ditch effort to ease your mind in pulling the trigger and buying the 1 series. If for a second there was an "idea" of a NEW AND IMPROVED model for you told order only months away, he may lose a sale. It's all sales bullshit to make you buy NOW.

After 12 Years in sales in marketing. I will follow what I went with. You can, at least here in Florida, return a car with in 3 days.

It is very possible that BMW has decided to carry over the 1-series as the 2-series will not be ready for quite some time. That is inconsistent with the information I got from one of the dealers I was looking at, but could be a recent development. The name part does not make any sense, though. I guess it could be that they want to start enforcing the new naming convention (odd numbers for sedans and even for coupes) RIGHT NOW, but it just seems too artificial. Almost doing it just for the sake of marketing.

Never underestimate the stupidity of sales staff. I've seen sales guys in my own company pull out bullshit that they didn't need to say, all because of the inherent insecurity that infects them. I hate to be so hard on them categorically, but really good sales people are exceedingly rare. The information he's claiming is inconsistent with everything we've seen from factory sources. Dealers are last in line to find out anything, because they're a huge source of leaks.

M235i
There is an article at Auto Express today and the BMW Senior VP of Brands and Products said the production M235i will be displayed at the Detroit auto show in January along with the new M3 and M4. He also said he just signed off on the M Sport performance kit which will include a limited slip diff for the car. I'm pretty sure there won't be a 2014 135 with the M235i being released.
