Given you can replace the helper spring (and it's all of $20), seems like it would be easily reversable...other than having to contort yourself to reinstall it under the dash. I also have a FUBAR left knee, and I have yet to pull the trigger on this particular mod.

Hmmm, not sure. Have read mixed reviews on the results of this mod. Have you done this? I must say, that removing the CDV has made quite the difference already. So might just stick with that, for now....

The helper spring is set up to lighten the throw at the bottom of the pedal. The top really doesn't change but as you press down the spring helps push the pedal down.

At the top it goes over center and pushes the pedal UP !

If you carefully feel the pressure as you depress the clutch it starts out heavier and gets lighter as you push further down. Removing the spring keeps the pressure constant all the way down.

These cars don't have heavy clutch springs so it really isn't needed.

Removing it makes the spring pressure consistent and I think this makes engagement more accurate.

I suppose the weight of the pedal (it is glass filled nylon and not very heavy), could lead to throwout bearing wear but if you reach down and physically lift the pedal you will see it is only a few grams of weight.

Nice thing is that it is totally reversible...just a pain in the ass to get to contortion wise....

It is NOT as significant as the CDV delete.

Great info! Thank you. Will put it on the back burner as a possible future experiment. At 6ft6, I don't fit into footwells easily...

The circlip at the top is a real PITA to get on, suggest using angled needle nose.
My neck still hurts from it lol.

FWIW; looks like the 135i had the beefy return spring (circled in red) and the 128i only had a smaller return spring (circled in purple).

I was poking around my 128i and removed the smaller return spring and noticed very little change along with the clutch stop. It was worth the ~5 minutes of poking around tho I'm really enjoying the clutch feel in the car now.

15 looks like a brake spring. My 128i definitely had the same spring as the 135 maybe a year change?

15 was attached to clutch. the 128i diagram is a bit confusing but you can see the connection better on the 135i diagram.

could be a year change, i'd be interested to see your diagram on realoem using your vin? i checked pre-lci and lci prod dates.
