New Wheels And The Tire Pressure Detectors.

It is starting to warm up outside and the weather allows to put some new wheels on our beemy's. I got stock 17's run-flats with pressure detectors. Switching to a set on 19's, lo-pro tires (not run-flats or with any kind of pressure monitors). I would assume that BC will keeps telling me that I have a flat or some kind of error after I put these new wheels on. What is the best way to deal with this. Should I just leave the BC warning on until I put my old wheels back on, or is it possible to install the pressure monitors on my after market wheels? Thanks.

You can definitely buy TPMS sensors from BMW, or other aftermarket places (for less money). I believe Beru TPMS sensors are what lots of people are using... Check in the commercial section here and I'm sure you'll find someone who is selling them. JLeviSW/EAS, etc...

Not sure where you are getting your wheels, but you might be able to get a discount on the sensors if you just have whoever is supplying the wheels/tires, to install a set when you buy your new setup.

You can also run without sensors, it won't hurt anything... but it'll be annoying to look at that light all season.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. You are right, keep looking at the yellow warning light for months and months could be very annoying. Well, I guess I will have to come up with 200 beans for the sensors

another option is to take the sensors out of the wheels, and put them in a perssurized tube in your trunk. makes the senors useless, but the annoying HUGE light goes away...

No I rather keep the original sensors in the original wheels as I am going to use it during the winter. Good info though. Thanks

you can use the stock sensors in the new rims. that is what I and many others have done. no reason to spend money on new ones.

Hmm, Interesting. How hard is it to pull the sensors out of the stock wheels? How much will it cost to do it at the shop? Thanks

Removing the sensors is a piece of cake if you have the tires off of the wheel. They're mounted to the interior side of the valve stem. If you're planning on keeping your stock wheel/tire set intact (for next winter or whatever) it's not really feasible to share one set of sensors between two sets of wheels.
