Yes, it is intentionally set to show higher speed because of various reasons. And it is not only BMW, but every other vehicle... With the exception of your Subaru, I guess. Again, as I said, car X can show more realistic speed than car Y, but the speed indicated must never be lower than the actual speed. There's an upper limit too: 10% + idontrememberhowmuch MPH. It is written in the EU law. Look that shit up. |

BMW has an intentional policy of taking their "precise" onboard car speed measurements and then presenting them to the driver in an inaccurate way. You seem to think this is OK. I don't. |

I'm telling you to read more about this issue. Tires play a big role, for example. Tread, inflation, diameter, etc.

When that same speed input is "uncorrected," as with the analog dial speedometer, (or with the digital readout if I don't have Carly "uncorrect" what BMW would like to "correct,") then the readout is 4mph faster than actual. I am not expecting perfection, and if the system is going to make an error, it should be small and should be biased to showing a slightly slower speed than actual speed. What I have a problem with is the INTENTIONAL doctoring of the speed shown to mislead the driver into thinking he is going faster than he is actually going. I was told by my service advisor on my last visit to the dealer (with my newly purchased used 135is convertible) that they could not correct the under reported speed because this was an INTENTIONAL SAFETY FEATURE put in there by BMW in their vehicles. She initially told me that this was her impression but that she would check with the tech and with BMW NA itself, which she did. The fact that the Carly program gives you the option to report in the digital speed, the actual measured speed or the "corrected" speed gives independent verification to this quite obvious fact. |

What's the code option to control the brightness of the LED bars in the tails?

Just FYI the speedo accuracy was the subject of a car & driver report.

Read through some of the e90 posts. Definitely some coding bricking FRM modules. Seems to happen w/ Carly and coding by cpu.
Like I said above always recommended to have a full battery charge and car on charger when coding. When I've coded my car in the past the shop was careful to mention that any coding can brick modules. It happens.

Highly recommend changing one item at a time. More issues when trying to mass code.

I used mine to reset my service indicator for rear brakes and fluid today. No issues.
I did make sure all draws were off, car running and I pulled battery voltage before starting.

The vast majority of things you can code with Carly were of no interest to me when I bought the adapter, and remain of no interest to me now that I have it. I used it a couple of days ago to show the digital speedometer, and to revert to actual speed for it as opposed to the "corrected" speed readout on my 135i. The other stuff having to do with mirrors, welcome lights, footwell lights, etc. etc. just don't interest me one way or the other.
The current version of Carly as works with the V2 adapter, from what I could see, does not appear to allow coding of multiple functions all at once. The 2 things that I did code required me to reboot Carly each time that a single coding went through. It also appears that the application measures the stability of the electric current in the car before allowing you to code anything. I doubt that any of this is foolproof, however it appears that the program's developers are trying to reduce any inherent risks in coding as it relates to the flash memory modules in the car. |

I've been using Carly for the last year - started with the original BT adapter, but it's all been on an Android tablet. On the wife's 2011 128i convertible, I'm able to code the digital readout with correction, unlock doors when key removed after engine shutdown, and a couple other minor things. It doesn't have comfort entry or premium packages, so no folding mirrors, etc. F-chassis cars have way more things that can be coded. But - code-reading/clearing is great, and I was able to detect a faulty Valvetronic sensor and a few other items that needed fixing before and after warranty was up.

Best thing I've found is to just google "bmw fault codes" or "bmw fault code xxxxxx" using the specific code. Carly will give you a brief description, but you'll get more info from a google search.
